I don't know much about Judaism, but may I ask why you used a star of david instead of a pentacle?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Claparo-Sans In reply to sambees [2009-02-16 23:24:30 +0000 UTC]

Umm... because I don't know any accordant pentacle and don't embrace Judaism also ^ ^

I was wondering it it was some sort of of statement about Judaism and black magic. My friend beside me thought it was some sort of anti-Semitic statement xD A more common pentacle used in 'magic' and rituals and such is the 5 point pentacle [link]

There're six-pointed stars in my drawing, just a symbol I've seen in manga when I was a kid : D I don't know if it has any meaning (hoping not concern religion problem)
Anyway, why so serious X"D

Indeed, the modern star of david derives from an occult seal, the pentacle and pentagram, now commonly associated with occultism, also have links to ancient Judaism, being known as the seal of Solomon.

Ultimately the Star of David only became a symbol of Judaism in the 15th Century, and even today many Jews refuse to recognise it because of its associations with magic or hard-line Zionism, like the cross/crucifix in Christianity.

The seal of Solomon (now the "proper name" for the Occult Pentacle) as the six pointed star was then known, was forced upon the Jews in the 14th Century by Charles IV of Bohemia, while the pentacle was used by the Jews from the 11th Century until the Mediaeval, when the pentagram became associated with magic, as it was an element of the crest of Jerusalem.

The pentagram, now associated with devil worship, was even used by Christians as recently as the start of the last century, and is still used by the Church of Jesus and the Latter Day Saints.

Ultimately, the majority of symbols we now see as religious are derived from old maths or mysticism, and people are too quick to jump to conclusions and assume religious links.

Balak In reply to Claparo-Sans [2009-02-17 00:35:18 +0000 UTC]

The hexagram did not originate with the Jews. Traditionally, the hexagram (one of the oldest symbols in the world) was a symbol of the occult, specifically concerning cosmological matters. It was adopted later by several religions for various uses, such as Judaism, Buddhism, Janism, Hinduism, Mormonism, the Freemasons, etc.

"Magen David" Literally translates into the "shield of David". It's not certain how the hexagram became associated with Jewish identity, but it was in reference somehow to David.

Therefore, it's use as an occult symbol is neither unorthodox nor anti-Semitic = D

(the same phenomenon occurs with the swastika, whose origional meaning is akin to "good luck" and which was used widely by Hinduism, Buddism, Janism, and many other Asian traditions before it was, unfortunately, adopted by the Nazis)

It's the star of david. It's the jewish religious symbol. Like a cross is for christianity.

Eh, the shine spot with the dark shadow by it is a little too pronounced, but hey, don't let my overdetailed eye bother you! It's still pretty darn good.
