I was performing an experiment and had my screen brightness turned down when I first looked at it and was quite impressed. When you replied I looked at it again and I realized that my screen was a little dim so I turned it up to normal and that's when I saw that beautiful painterly effect just bloom in front of my eyes.

It reminds me of the famous oil painting "The Blue Boy (1770) by Thomas Gainsborough", but in my mind your image would be known as "The Gold Girl (2011) by Classically-Fragile".

thank you! I have my monitor calibrated right now, so I'm afraid to touch it. O_O I can tilt it back sometimes though, since it's a laptop.

You are welcome. I do normally not mess with my display settings because then I have to go back and recalibrate, but today was experiment day so I was out of whack for a little while.

I'm glad that you actually do have a name for it (it deserves a special name), maybe we will learn the secret when we see it hanging in a museum!

I don't now about that, you're off to a good start with a fantastic image (which today reminds me of a cross between "The Girl with a Pearl Earring" by Johannes Vermeer and "The Blue Boy" by Thomas Gainsborough, so the more I look at it, the better it gets) and you seem to have retained your sanity so far.
