They say that everyone has a choice.

I can still remember when I made mine.

When this whole war sparked, those who opted for non-involvement, for sanctuary, fled to the Solar Empire for refuge. For a time, this worked out favorably.
As the war went on, stories began pouring in and more whispered murmurs took root and spread, it seemed to the rest of us that the NLR was nothing more than a warmongering State. Rumors said that everyone fought, there were no civilians, no refugees. For a time, the Solar Empire was a shining beacon of civility, a safe haven for those who didn't wish to fight their own brothers and sisters.
...For a time.

All was well at first, til they found out what I had done for a living prior to all of this. With more attacks on the Light's cities, and more infiltration, everyone was under scrutiny, everypony subject to thorough checks of their loyalties.
I suppose I couldn't blame them for their prejudice, After all, how could I be in favor of the sun when my primary occupation was to create the dark clouds that covered it up? They marked me as a traitor to the Light, a spy... Branded me and cast their stones.
Myself and a few others managed to escape the Solar State, and made our way into the night.

Its true what they said before, there is no uninvolvement in the Republic, no sitting idly by while others fight. And a Pegasus with intricate knowledge of high yield storms, well, lets just say they have great use for such likes. There are many Pegasi in the employ of the Republic for just that reason.

Now every time they need some shock and awe campaign, a valley flooded, or any number of atrocities committed, chances are, I'm behind some of them. They want the sun covered. I can do that. Consider it repayment for the 'sanctuary' I received from the Light's warm embrace.
It does make me ill to see how my once favorite things in Equestria have been turned into darkness blacker than the night sky... My passion turned to pitch overcast looming overhead... But I made my choice. I went the way that seemed right and this is what it got me. These scars. Fugitive status in the Solar Empire. I may not like what I do now, but the face shown to me before by those under the false guise of caring and right... they're no better.
Til this war has a victor, there won't be an end. You can hope for peace, negotiations, a cease fire agreement, but all of that is wishful thinking. If you don't remind yourself that this is war, you'll drive yourself crazy just waiting for an end that may not come.

I made my choice...
And now, what choice do I have?

This is the second and last installment of my "What Future" line, I had a blast doing these two highly contrasting pieces.
I find it interesting that, in my own mind, I've created these two wildly different personalities, one happy, one gruff, and looked into their futures to find that they had more or less switched roles. This role switch dictated, of course, by a possible series of events that maybe never happens anyways - Lightning being betrayed and Rocket following in her Father's footsteps, so to speak.

Had fun with this one. Hope you guys enjoy!
