Description
Coby is a Marine Captain who trained under Garp along with Helmeppo after Axe-Hand Morgan's defeat at Shells Town. He's introduced as a timid, weak boy being forced to serve as cabin boy on Alvida's pirate ship. After meeting and befriending Luffy and seeing his determination to become Pirate King, Coby finds his courage and stands up to Alvida, leaves her ship, and after helping to free Zoro, joins the Marines as a chore boy. He survived Garp's intense training from hell and rose through the ranks and became a captain in two years - the fastest rate of advancement in the history of the Marines. Coby has powerful Observation Haki, first triggered during the Battle of Marineford, when he came to after getting knocked out by Luffy. He woke up hearing the "voices" of soldiers and pirates alike being cut down all around him, even though Ace had already been executed and the pirates were retreating. In a stunning moment of bravery, an extremely distressed Coby stood up to Admiral Akainu and called him out for wasting so many lives on a now pointless battle. Facing Akainu' s immense wrath for interrupting the battle, Coby prepared himself for imminent death, but was saved by Shania, who then ended the war and commended Coby for his courage. Coby was the first friend Luffy made on his travels, and despite being on opposite sides, they both still consider each other a good friend and look forward to facing each other as rivals.
