Description I've had this picture ready to scan for the last 2 years but I've been holding it back for a very simple and silly reason.... what railroad does it get indexed in? (Don't be silly, I do know what a relational database is good for. )

First the setting... it's Chicago Dearborn Street Station on January 21, 1967. For a wider view see A Break in the Action . The station clock tower says it's 2:55 PM so on the left that has to be Santa Fe Train #1, The San Francisco Chief, scheduled to depart at 3:00.

Monon's rather special Alco Century 420 "P" #501 sits on the side waiting for the Thoughbred to be made up for departure at 5:25 PM. A better shot of this engine is at Century Hi-hood .

The Chicago & Eastern Illinois E-unit will end up on their train #1 bound for Evansville at 7:25 PM. It arrived this morning on the Hummingbird .

Nice shot, has a very classic feel to it. But 67, that seems like so long ago, almost half a century in a few years... How time flies

Yup... now you know why I categorize myself as an "Old Fart."

I hope that I'll one day ride in a Hi-Level car before Amtrak phases them out completely. Your quandry is readily visible here. I'd say it'd qualify as a Monon shot mostly due to its most-readily-visible logo...

The most comfortable thing I've ever ridden in is the Hi-Level Parlor cars. They are far better than any old dome or obs and beat out the "Princess" cars on the Alaska RR.

They still run on the Coast Starlight, no?
