Phea was in a state of depression. Life at the nook wasn't going well for her; people called her Muck Butt a lot, teasing her and jumping back in disgust everytime she walked past. The taunting had gotton worse, however, when her feathers grew in, and she started sneezing and getting runny noses. The other wynglings thought she was disgusting. They started calling her other things, worse things. Freak. Creep. Loser. Phea couldn't understand it. What did she ever do to them? They looked at her like she was some disgusting bug. No worse: like she was a monster. Phea knew she was different; she didn't like playing many games with the other wynglings, prefering to read instead. She didn't seek the company of others, and prefered to stay alone. She tried to ignore it, the insults. She tried to bury her sadness deep inside. But the cruel words always seemed to find their way into her head, and the sadness always showed on her face.

"No one likes you. Why stick around? You should just run away," They said to her. These things circled round her mind. Were they right? Did everyone hate her? What about Alma? It seemed that the motherly figure of the nook was too busy to notice Phea nowadays. Maybe they are right thought Phea to herself, tears welling up in her eyes. She hated the other wynglings to see her cry, so she would go cry alone in the old shed with Rosie. Phea knew that Rosie would never judge her, so she would sit by the box letting the tears fall down her face.

One day when the teasing was particualy harsh, Phea found herself sobbing quietly in the shed again. She rested her head against her arm, which was propped up on the side of the box which Rosie sat in. Rosie stared at Phea through big eyes. Suddenly, Rosie went over and plonked her head on Phea's arm, taking Phea by surprise. This simple gesture was surprisingly comforting. Phea looked into Rosie's eyes. Rosie may have been a dumb puckoo, but she seemed to understand what Phea was going through. I know what it feels like Rosie's eyes seemed to say. I know what it feels like to be alone.

After that, Phea felt a bit better. Sure, she was still made fun of, but she knew that she had Rosie, and everything was fine. From that moment, Phea felt that between her and Rosie, they wern't just a secret pet and an owner. They were like soul siblings. Phea hugged Rosie and promised that nothing would part them...
