Chapter 9: Secrets Within

Mario looked around to see both his allies and his enemies staring at him in bewilderment. He began to wonder why they all gazed at him as if he was a ghost or something. Then he looked down at himself and flinched in surprise. He was covered in brown fur, still wore his cap, gloves, and shoes and had a large raccoon tail. Mario touched his furry face to confirm sure he wasn’t in a Tanooki suit still shocked and confounded. His mustache became a black fuzzy muzzle and like a raccoon he had a black nose and mask around his eyes.
Roy punched Lemmy hard in the shoulder.
“Ow! What was that for?!” He said rubbing his fresh bruise.
“You idiot! Ya didn’t get ‘em good enough! He’s still standin!” Roy yelled.
“Well, sorry! I didn’t know there were any Tanooki suits laying around!” Lemmy talked back angrily.
“Ah move over, will ya?!” Roy pushed him aside and fired a blast from his wand at the raccoon. On impulse, Mario crossed his arms over his chest, instantly turned to stone and the shot merely deflected off of him like harmless tennis ball.
“WHAAT!?!” Roy exclaimed.
Mario changed back into his colored, unhardened, raccoon form as he looked down at himself in bafflement.
“What’s going on?” He thought confused, “I thought I could only do that when wearing a tanooki suit.”
Roy fired at the raccoon three more times with his wand in anger as he spun his massive tail and took off the desert ground. Mario dodged the shots by twisting and swerving in mid air like an airplane as he quickly closed the gap between them. With the propelled forced of his raccoon-tail, he tackled into Roy, Larry, and Morton all at once knocking them down.
“OOF!!”
“AAGH!!”
“AUFFF!!”
The full-raccoon plumber slowed to a halt and whipped around to face the enemy.
Roy got back on his feet grumbling.
“Son of a- He can fly too?!?!” The pink koopaling exclaimed, “I thought he couldn’t turn to stone and fly at the same time!!”
“He can’t.” said Bowser Jr., “At least he shouldn’t. Something’s fishy here…”
“I’ve tried to ask you koopalings to leave, but just like your father you’re just persistent as ever.” Mario said as he whipped his tail around, “If you won’t go home, then I’ll force you!”
“Puh! Yeah right!” Roy spat sarcastically, “Do ya seriously think that you could make us…”
Mario lashed around his powerful tail against the ground and created an enormous wave of sand over the koopalings.
“Aw crud…”
The five tried to escape the looming desert tsunami before it crashed heavily on top of them. Seconds later they popped out of the sand one by one spitting the rocky powder out of their mouths distastefully.
“Hey, I kinda like this power of his!” Knuckles said impressed, “Don’t know where it came from but it sure is putting us on the winning side!”
“You think we should help him?” Luigi asked.
“Nah, I think he’s got it.” Sonic answered smiling with his hands on his hips, “Besides, I wanna see how he handles this himself with that power of his.”
Sonic was relieved not only because he knew that his friend was all right, but because he could see him back on his feet fighting the Koopalings.
“That’s it! I’ve had enough of this crap!” Roy exclaimed, angrily climbing out of the sand. The pink koopaling charged at Mario with rage.
“Hey! Roy, get back here!” Bowser Jr. ordered. Roy ignored his brother and swung his wand at his opponent, but Mario dodged it by jumping back. He tried hitting him again but he was countered by the raccoon’s powerful tail. The blow sent the reptile flying back to his group and he landed with a sandy thud. Larry and Lemmy ran over to aid their larger sibling.
“Give up, koopalings! We have you beaten and outnumbered. Go back to your castle before you get REALLY hurt.” Advised the full raccoon plumber.
“BITE ME!!” Roy quickly sat up and shot a dark energy at Mario, which deflected off of him when he turned to stone for a brief moment. Out of his hardened state, specks of green energy appeared around him as formed into leaves. Then with a quick motion of his hand, he shot the dozens of floating leaves towards the koopalings.
“Owowowow!!!” Lemmy ran in circles trying to avoid the barrage of sharp leaves.
“Ouch! Stop it! They feel like paper cuts!”
“Aaaagh!”
“Hey! Knock it off!”
“Alright! Alright! We give! We give!” Cried Bowser Jr.
The assault of the strange leaves then halted at the victims surrender.
“What?! BJ, ya gotta be kiddin me!!” Roy yelled
The Bowser Jr. ignored him as he raised his wand and the Koopa Clown Car lowered itself onto the sand.
“C’mon guys. Mario is too powerful for us right now. Let’s get back to the castle.” The koopaling leader climbed back into the car followed by Larry, Lemmy, and Morton.
“So what?! We’re just gonna leave without gettin the emeralds?!” Roy wailed in infuriated.
“Roy, get in the car. We can deal with them later. Besides, there are other things we have to do.” Bowser Jr. explained.
“But—“
“I said get in the car now or else I’ll tell Papa you refused to obey my orders!”
The larger, pink sibling growled furiously before he approached the odd vehicle. He gave the opposing group a very dirty look through his broken shades before he boarded the Koopa Clown Car. With the five brothers in the vessel, it rose off of the desert sand.
“This isn’t over, Mario.” Bowser Jr. declared, “Our papa and Eggman have plans for you and your friends. We won’t lose to you this time! You can count on it!”
And with that said the five sons of Bowser flew off into the distance.
The plumber’s five other teammates rushed over and congratulated him on his victory.
“Wow, Mario, you really knocked the shells off those kids!” Knuckles gave him a slap on the back.
“Yeah, you were great out there, bro!” Luigi said impressed.
“Way to go, Mario! I never thought there was a mobian inside of you all this time!”
Yoshi licked his raccoon pal in a friendly congratulatory manner.
“Mario, that was amazing! But… What exactly happened after you were shot? And how did you turn into a raccoon?” A baffled Tails asked.
“To tell you the truth, I’m not so sure.” Mario wiped Yoshi’s slobber off of his face with his gloved hand, “But when I was hit I actually landed on one of your Chaos Emeralds and put in my hat for safe keeping. That’s when a leaf –“
“Hey, wait a minute! You mean you found one of the Chaos Emeralds?” Knuckles interrupted, “Let us see it!”
“Well, okay…” Mario retrieved the gem from his hat and showed it to his allies. It shined even brighter now that it was closer to the emerald Tails was keeping.
“ So it must’ve been the emerald you picked that made you to transform.” Sonic said looking down in it rubbing his nose.
“Yeah, but I only transformed after a touched a super leaf to power-up.”
“What? A super leaf? What the heck is that?” Knuckles asked.
Before Luigi could explain Tails said.
“I think it would be best if we discussed this back in Toad Town with the Professor. For all we know the koopalings could come back with reinforcements.” Insisted the yellow fox.
“Yeah, I wouldn’t want to risk another encounter with those kids again. If it weren’t for Mario I’d probably be a goner by now. Also, thanks by the way. I really owe you one, buddy.” Sonic gave the full raccoon a pat on the shoulder.
“Heh, don’t mention it.” Mario grinned.
“C’mon, let’s get back to Toad Town. The others are still waiting for us!”

“Man it sure is quiet with the boys gone…” Daisy said holding her teacup with her elbows on the table. “I wonder if they found one of those ‘emerald’ things yet…”
The girls, Daisy, Peach, Rosalina, Cream, and Amy all sat a table drinking tea in front of the star beacon in the Comet Observatory. A few a Rosalina’s lumas played with Cream’s Chao, Cheese, a few yards away from the table.
Amy took a sip.
“It may take a while. Any of the Chaos Emeralds could be anywhere and all they could do is guess where to look first.”
“I’m sure they’ll find one soon.” Said Cream, “Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles always work their hardest against Eggman.”
“Yeah I guess you’re right…” Daisy quietly stirred her tea, “But it’s still good to have that knucklehead out of my hair! Can you believe it? The little rat was going to just leave me in the middle of the freaking desert!” She slammed her cup down.
“Daisy you shouldn’t let little things like that get to you. Whatever it was I’m sure Knuckles didn’t mean to hurt or offend you in any way.” Rosalina tried to calm her with her words, “Oh, and please be a bit gentler with my china.”
“LITTLE!?! I passed out from dehydration because of him!” Daisy exclaimed pounding on the table.
“That’s because you two decided to pick with each other. ” Amy reminded, “You both would’ve been fine if you just went your separate ways…”
“Yeah, well he started it! Besides, I need to knock some sense into that little red rodent anyway…” She drank from her cup again.
“Hiya guys!” Bolette suddenly appeared near the table still injured in crutches. All five of the girls turned to the young toad in surprise. “Ooh! A tea party! Can I join you!?”
“Bolette, what are you doing here?” Rosalina asked, “You’re supposed to be in the bedroom resting. You shouldn’t be walking around.”
“Yeah, Bolette your awfully hurt badly from when you saved Sonic, Mario and the others. You should really lie down and get some rest.” Cream agreed in a worried tone.
“Ah, nonsense!” She waved down a bandaged hand in denial, “I’m perfectly fine! Heck I could take on Bowser if I wanted too! Hey, are those sugar cubes? Gimme!”
Bolette grabbed a handful of sugar cubes on the table and stuffed them in her mouth. Just then the black hedgehog, Shadow, passed the group several yards away.
“Hey Shadow!” Bolette waved to him with the cubes still in her mouth, “How’s it hanging!?”
Shadow stopped for a moment to glance at the girls then exclusively at Peach before he continued to pass by.
“Hmph…”
All the girls, lumas, and Cheese stared at him as he disappeared.
“Okay! I’ll see you later!” Bolette yelled waving again, “Man, he’s so awesome…”
Peach stared down at her reflection in the cup as if she was worried or deep in thought. The other ladies at the table had noticed her strange behavior.
“Hey Peach are you alright?” Daisy asked.
“Yeah, you’ve barely said a thing since the boys left.” Amy added.
The princess looked up at the others then gazed slightly down again.
“Oh, it’s nothing. I’ve just been thinking about Shadow that’s all…”
“Shadow?” Cream said.
“Yeah, what about Shadow anyway?” Daisy rested her head on her right hand as she propped her elbow on the table, “Come on. Quit hiding it from us.”
“Well… Okay.” The pink princess gave in. She told the group about how protective Shadow was over her since they met and how at one point he mentioned that he thought Peach was someone else in the Kongo Jungle.
She looked down at her cup again.
“It’s not that I’m ungrateful for what he’s done for me… I’m just wondering why he acts this way towards me even though we’ve never even met.”
A silence filled the air after the princess had finished until Cream turned to Amy and said.
“What do you think, Amy? Do you think it might be because she reminds him of Maria?”
The three princesses at the table immediately picked up on the irony of the name while Bolette continued to stare off into space.
“Maria? Who the heck is Maria?” Daisy sat up.
“Perhaps this Maria is someone Shadow is fond of, correct?” Asked Rosalina.
“Yeah, WAS fond of…” Answered the pink hedgehog putting down her teacup.
Peach instantly began to show more interest.
“Was? What do mean? What happened to her?”
“Well it’s kind of a long story but… Back in our world, Shadow the Hedgehog was an experiment built by Dr. Ivo Robotnik’s grandfather, Dr. Gerald Robotnik, 50 years ago…”
“Wait a minute. Eggman’s GRANDFATHER? FIFTY years ago??” Bolette was suddenly paying attention again, “Wow… He must be REALLY old!”
“He’s dead you moron…” Daisy bothered to point out to the mushroom girl while drinking her tea.
“Oh… Go on…”
“Shadow was created in a giant spacecraft orbiting our planet called the Space Colony Arc. During the early years of his life Shadow had lived there with Dr. Gerald Robotnik, his associates, and the doctor’s granddaughter, Maria Robotnik. In time the government found out about Gerald’s research and sent troops to destroy everything there… Although Shadow had escaped in a pod… Maria was shot and killed by the soldiers…”
There was a shocked expression on Peach’s face and then sympathy.
“I don’t really know much more than that, but my guess is that Shadow had deeply cared for Maria. And because you remind him of her, he probably feels compelled to protect you so nothing bad happens to you either… I can only imagine what went through his mind when you were grabbed by Bowser and Robotnik’s robot…”
A long silence filled the air among the group as Peach looked back down at her cup and contemplated. Even Bolette remained quiet as she ate a few more sugar cubes and slurped some of the tea from directly from the teapot.
The silence was broken when she saw the heroes returning in the distance.
“Hey! The guys are back!” She cheered.
The other girls noticed the group as they got closer to the Comet Observatory. Before long, Sonic, Mario, Tails, Luigi, Knuckles and Yoshi all arrived at their destination.
“Hey everyone, good news. We found the… Um…” Tails would’ve finished his sentence if he hadn’t realized that the females, lumas, and Cheese were all staring at Mario surprised.
“Oh yeah. I forgot about that…” The fox muttered.
“Mario??” Peach stood up from her chair, “Is that you? What happened?”
“Oh, cool!” Bolette yelled, “Mario’s a furry now! How did you do that!? I wanna be one too!!”
“Ah great. Here we go again.” Daisy mumbled, “I swear this week just keeps getting weirder and weirder.”
Princess Peach approached the raccoon plumber to get a better look before kneeling in front of him.
“Mario what happened to you? How did you become a raccoon?” She asked confused.
“Well, we don’t really know. And it’s kind of a long-”
“Alright! What’s going on here?” Shadow suddenly appeared nearby. It was then that he spotted Mario in full raccoon form.
“…He wasn’t like that when you guys left to find the emeralds, wasn’t he?...”
“Uh no, he wasn’t...” Luigi responded.
The red and black hedgehog planted his face in his right hand.
“Uugh…” He sighed.
“I should’ve known this kind of crap would’ve happened.” Shadow thought, “I knew I should’ve just gone with them in the first place.”
“That’s the reason why we came back. We need to talk to the professor and find out what happened to Mario here.” Sonic informed.
“Do you think you might be able to change him back?”
“Well if you’re going to that mad scientist’s house then I’m coming with you. I think I’d like to know how you guys were able to turn a human, that’s not even from our own universe, into a full mobian raccoon in just a few hours.” Shadow said sounding a bit irritated.
“Well, actually it wasn’t our fault.” Luigi said, “You see, Mario actually-“
“Save it.” Shadow cut him off sternly, “Let’s just get to the professor’s house and get this over with.”
After their conversation at the Comet Observatory, Mario, Sonic, Tails, Luigi, and Shadow left for E. Gadd’s Garage while Yoshi and Knuckles stayed behind to keep a look out for any badniks or any of Bowser’s goons.
Soon enough they presented the mobian raccoon to the professor.
“My! My! What do we have here?!” He spoke in a surprised yet intrigued tone. Elvin circled Mario as he examined him closely. “I’ve never seen anything like this before! I’ve heard stories of you and your brother growing the ears and tail and even putting a suit of a raccoon. But I never would expect you to become one yourself! This is incredible!”
“Yes, well…” Tails began, “We were wondering if you’d know what exactly happened to Mario, Professor. We never had this happen in our world either and we’d figure that you could make something of it.”
“I’m not so sure of this myself, Tails. At this point I am as baffled as the rest of you.” E. Gadd stroked his chin still looking at the raccoon plumber.
“Can you tell us what events took place before your transformation, Mario?” He asked.
“Well, okay.” He replied scratching himself behind the ear. Mario told the professor that they were attack by five of the koopalings and how he got himself injured by rescuing Sonic. Then he got to the part about when he found the Chaos Emerald and a Super Leaf.
“Hey, wait a minute!” Shadow interrupted, “Are you saying that you found a Chaos Emerald and none of you told me?!”
“W-well, we tried to tell you earlier but you were so persistent on getting Mario’s condition over with…” Luigi pointed out timidly. The black hedgehog turned back to Mario.
“The emerald. You still have it, don’t you?”
The raccoon plumber nodded and retrieved the gem from under his hat. It’s green radiance filled the room as it was presented to the gang. There was a brief moment of silence as everyone stared at it.
“Well, that’s a relief.” Shadow folded his arms, “At least you all managed to do SOMETHING right.”
With the green emerald in his hand, Mario had just realized that he was subconsciously tapping into its power. The raccoon plumber focused on withdrawing himself from the stone and soon enough he began to glow again. The others shielded their eyes from the harsh green rays with the light bright enough to be seen from Toad Town.
After a few seconds the light had faded and there Mario only with raccoon ears and a tail. He blinked in surprise.
“Ah, just as I thought!” Said Professor E. Gadd, “The transformation must’ve been triggered by both the Chaos Emerald and the Super Leaf! Now this all makes sense.”
“Super Leaf, huh? What is a Super Leaf any way?” Sonic asked scratching his head.
“It’s a power-up Weegee and I use that give us raccoon ears and tails.” Mario answered, “But it only allows us to fly and hit other things with our tails. It never gave us the ability to attack with leaves or turn to stone at will.”
“That’s because your Chaos Emerald had amplified the power of the Super Leaf when you powered-up. Giving you a wider range of abilities that may somehow be related to the leaf. Also, I believe it would only make sense that your animal form would be similar to Sonic and his friends being from the same dimension.” E. Gadd stated.
When Mario thought about the whole thing it did seem to make sense. Although he had attained the emerald first, he did not transform until he touched the super leaf.
“Professor, do you think the Chaos Emeralds may have the same affect on all the other power-ups just like the Super Leaf?” He asked curiously.
“Well I certainly wouldn’t be surprised if they did, Mario. Seeing how you entered my quarters as anthropomorphic raccoon a few minutes ago, my guess is that anything can happen with these odd gems.”
Just then something hit Shadow. If the Chaos Emeralds were capable of turning Mario into a mobian raccoon and giving him new abilities then there’s no telling what would happen if Bowser or any of his goons got a hold of them.
“Guys, I think it’s best that we—Hey guys!! What’s happening?!” Shadow was suddenly caught off when Bolette yelled in the doorway still injured.
“Oh look! Mario’s not a furry anymore!” She added.
“Bolette??!” Luigi exclaimed surprised, “How the heck did you get here?! You’re still hurt!”
“Yeah, E. Gadd’s place is at least one mile away from the Comet Observatory. How did get here so fast in such an injured state?” Tails asked.
“Huh? Oh yeah, right! My new friend just flew me here when I told him about you and Yoshi!” She responded.
“New friend?...” Mario said confused. “Since when did you just--Hey guys!” He was also interrupted when a figure appeared next to Bolette. It was a yellow, four-armed, winged Yoshi with light blue shoes, spikes, and saddle.
“My name’s Tropical. I just flew down from Cumulus City when I heard that Tails and the others had crossed over to our world. Bolette told me all about you guys being here and fighting Bowser and Eggman. Man, I can’t believe Tails is here I’m such a big fan!” The parayoshi said cheerfully.
Almost everyone in the room stared at Tropical baffled as Shadow planted his face in his palm and sighed.
“I swear all this madness is never going to end…”

Ugh, FINALLY! I've been getting kinda lazy lately. Drawing other things, making a Deadpool plushie, trying to clone myself ect.
So yeah this is what full-raccoon Mario looks like. I'm thinking about doing another Chaos Emerald+Power-up+Plumber=Mobian awesomeness in the future. Except with Luigi of course. So yeah Peach is told about Shadow's past and why he looks after her and all that. Also, incase your wondering, the four-armed yellow parayoshi, Tropical, at the end is one of my friend's OCs. You'll see more of him in the next chapter and even in action in the future. And also why he's familiar with Sonic and the gang. I thought it would be funny to have him and my own OC be friends.

Yoshi licked his raccoon pal in a friendly congratulatory manner.
“Mario, that was amazing! But… What exactly happened after you were shot? And how did you turn into a raccoon?” A baffled Tails asked.
“To tell you the truth, I’m not so sure.” Mario wiped Yoshi’s slobber off of his face with his gloved hand, “But when I was hit I actually landed on one of your Chaos Emeralds and put in my hat for safe keeping. That’s when a leaf –“
“Hey, wait a minute! You mean you found one of the Chaos Emeralds?” Knuckles interrupted, “Let us see it!”
“Well, okay…” Mario retrieved the gem from his hat and showed it to his allies. It shined even brighter now that it was closer to the emerald Tails was keeping.
“ So it must’ve been the emerald you picked that made you to transform.” Sonic said looking down in it rubbing his nose.
“Yeah, but I only transformed after a touched a super leaf to power-up.”
“What? A super leaf? What the heck is that?” Knuckles asked.
Before Luigi could explain Tails said.
“I think it would be best if we discussed this back in Toad Town with the Professor. For all we know the koopalings could come back with reinforcements.” Insisted the yellow fox.
“Yeah, I wouldn’t want to risk another encounter with those kids again. If it weren’t for Mario I’d probably be a goner by now. Also, thanks by the way. I really owe you one, buddy.” Sonic gave the full raccoon a pat on the shoulder.
“Heh, don’t mention it.” Mario grinned.
“C’mon, let’s get back to Toad Town. The others are still waiting for us!”

“Man it sure is quiet with the boys gone…” Daisy said holding her teacup with her elbows on the table. “I wonder if they found one of those ‘emerald’ things yet…”
The girls, Daisy, Peach, Rosalina, Cream, and Amy all sat a table drinking tea in front of the star beacon in the Comet Observatory. A few a Rosalina’s lumas played with Cream’s Chao, Cheese, a few yards away from the table.
Amy took a sip.
“It may take a while. Any of the Chaos Emeralds could be anywhere and all they could do is guess where to look first.”
“I’m sure they’ll find one soon.” Said Cream, “Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles always work their hardest against Eggman.”
“Yeah I guess you’re right…” Daisy quietly stirred her tea, “But it’s still good to have that knucklehead out of my hair! Can you believe it? The little rat was going to just leave me in the middle of the freaking desert!” She slammed her cup down.
“Daisy you shouldn’t let little things like that get to you. Whatever it was I’m sure Knuckles didn’t mean to hurt or offend you in any way.” Rosalina tried to calm her with her words, “Oh, and please be a bit gentler with my china.”
“LITTLE!?! I passed out from dehydration because of him!” Daisy exclaimed pounding on the table.
“That’s because you two decided to pick with each other. ” Amy reminded, “You both would’ve been fine if you just went your separate ways…”
“Yeah, well he started it! Besides, I need to knock some sense into that little red rodent anyway…” She drank from her cup again.
“Hiya guys!” Bolette suddenly appeared near the table still injured in crutches. All five of the girls turned to the young toad in surprise. “Ooh! A tea party! Can I join you!?”
“Bolette, what are you doing here?” Rosalina asked, “You’re supposed to be in the bedroom resting. You shouldn’t be walking around.”
“Yeah, Bolette your awfully hurt badly from when you saved Sonic, Mario and the others. You should really lie down and get some rest.” Cream agreed in a worried tone.
“Ah, nonsense!” She waved down a bandaged hand in denial, “I’m perfectly fine! Heck I could take on Bowser if I wanted too! Hey, are those sugar cubes? Gimme!”
Bolette grabbed a handful of sugar cubes on the table and stuffed them in her mouth. Just then the black hedgehog, Shadow, passed the group several yards away.
“Hey Shadow!” Bolette waved to him with the cubes still in her mouth, “How’s it hanging!?”
Shadow stopped for a moment to glance at the girls then exclusively at Peach before he continued to pass by.
“Hmph…”
All the girls, lumas, and Cheese stared at him as he disappeared.
“Okay! I’ll see you later!” Bolette yelled waving again, “Man, he’s so awesome…”
Peach stared down at her reflection in the cup as if she was worried or deep in thought. The other ladies at the table had noticed her strange behavior.
“Hey Peach are you alright?” Daisy asked.
“Yeah, you’ve barely said a thing since the boys left.” Amy added.
The princess looked up at the others then gazed slightly down again.
“Oh, it’s nothing. I’ve just been thinking about Shadow that’s all…”
“Shadow?” Cream said.
“Yeah, what about Shadow anyway?” Daisy rested her head on her right hand as she propped her elbow on the table, “Come on. Quit hiding it from us.”
“Well… Okay.” The pink princess gave in. She told the group about how protective Shadow was over her since they met and how at one point he mentioned that he thought Peach was someone else in the Kongo Jungle.
She looked down at her cup again.
“It’s not that I’m ungrateful for what he’s done for me… I’m just wondering why he acts this way towards me even though we’ve never even met.”
A silence filled the air after the princess had finished until Cream turned to Amy and said.
“What do you think, Amy? Do you think it might be because she reminds him of Maria?”
The three princesses at the table immediately picked up on the irony of the name while Bolette continued to stare off into space.
“Maria? Who the heck is Maria?” Daisy sat up.
“Perhaps this Maria is someone Shadow is fond of, correct?” Asked Rosalina.
“Yeah, WAS fond of…” Answered the pink hedgehog putting down her teacup.
Peach instantly began to show more interest.
“Was? What do mean? What happened to her?”
“Well it’s kind of a long story but… Back in our world, Shadow the Hedgehog was an experiment built by Dr. Ivo Robotnik’s grandfather, Dr. Gerald Robotnik, 50 years ago…”
“Wait a minute. Eggman’s GRANDFATHER? FIFTY years ago??” Bolette was suddenly paying attention again, “Wow… He must be REALLY old!”
“He’s dead you moron…” Daisy bothered to point out to the mushroom girl while drinking her tea.
“Oh… Go on…”
“Shadow was created in a giant spacecraft orbiting our planet called the Space Colony Arc. During the early years of his life Shadow had lived there with Dr. Gerald Robotnik, his associates, and the doctor’s granddaughter, Maria Robotnik. In time the government found out about Gerald’s research and sent troops to destroy everything there… Although Shadow had escaped in a pod… Maria was shot and killed by the soldiers…”
There was a shocked expression on Peach’s face and then sympathy.
“I don’t really know much more than that, but my guess is that Shadow had deeply cared for Maria. And because you remind him of her, he probably feels compelled to protect you so nothing bad happens to you either… I can only imagine what went through his mind when you were grabbed by Bowser and Robotnik’s robot…”
A long silence filled the air among the group as Peach looked back down at her cup and contemplated. Even Bolette remained quiet as she ate a few more sugar cubes and slurped some of the tea from directly from the teapot.
The silence was broken when she saw the heroes returning in the distance.
“Hey! The guys are back!” She cheered.
The other girls noticed the group as they got closer to the Comet Observatory. Before long, Sonic, Mario, Tails, Luigi, Knuckles and Yoshi all arrived at their destination.
“Hey everyone, good news. We found the… Um…” Tails would’ve finished his sentence if he hadn’t realized that the females, lumas, and Cheese were all staring at Mario surprised.
“Oh yeah. I forgot about that…” The fox muttered.
“Mario??” Peach stood up from her chair, “Is that you? What happened?”
“Oh, cool!” Bolette yelled, “Mario’s a furry now! How did you do that!? I wanna be one too!!”
“Ah great. Here we go again.” Daisy mumbled, “I swear this week just keeps getting weirder and weirder.”
Princess Peach approached the raccoon plumber to get a better look before kneeling in front of him.
“Mario what happened to you? How did you become a raccoon?” She asked confused.
“Well, we don’t really know. And it’s kind of a long-”
“Alright! What’s going on here?” Shadow suddenly appeared nearby. It was then that he spotted Mario in full raccoon form.
“…He wasn’t like that when you guys left to find the emeralds, wasn’t he?...”
“Uh no, he wasn’t...” Luigi responded.
The red and black hedgehog planted his face in his right hand.
“Uugh…” He sighed.
“I should’ve known this kind of crap would’ve happened.” Shadow thought, “I knew I should’ve just gone with them in the first place.”
“That’s the reason why we came back. We need to talk to the professor and find out what happened to Mario here.” Sonic informed.
“Do you think you might be able to change him back?”
“Well if you’re going to that mad scientist’s house then I’m coming with you. I think I’d like to know how you guys were able to turn a human, that’s not even from our own universe, into a full mobian raccoon in just a few hours.” Shadow said sounding a bit irritated.
“Well, actually it wasn’t our fault.” Luigi said, “You see, Mario actually-“
“Save it.” Shadow cut him off sternly, “Let’s just get to the professor’s house and get this over with.”
After their conversation at the Comet Observatory, Mario, Sonic, Tails, Luigi, and Shadow left for E. Gadd’s Garage while Yoshi and Knuckles stayed behind to keep a look out for any badniks or any of Bowser’s goons.
Soon enough they presented the mobian raccoon to the professor.
“My! My! What do we have here?!” He spoke in a surprised yet intrigued tone. Elvin circled Mario as he examined him closely. “I’ve never seen anything like this before! I’ve heard stories of you and your brother growing the ears and tail and even putting a suit of a raccoon. But I never would expect you to become one yourself! This is incredible!”
“Yes, well…” Tails began, “We were wondering if you’d know what exactly happened to Mario, Professor. We never had this happen in our world either and we’d figure that you could make something of it.”
“I’m not so sure of this myself, Tails. At this point I am as baffled as the rest of you.” E. Gadd stroked his chin still looking at the raccoon plumber.
“Can you tell us what events took place before your transformation, Mario?” He asked.
“Well, okay.” He replied scratching himself behind the ear. Mario told the professor that they were attack by five of the koopalings and how he got himself injured by rescuing Sonic. Then he got to the part about when he found the Chaos Emerald and a Super Leaf.
“Hey, wait a minute!” Shadow interrupted, “Are you saying that you found a Chaos Emerald and none of you told me?!”
“W-well, we tried to tell you earlier but you were so persistent on getting Mario’s condition over with…” Luigi pointed out timidly. The black hedgehog turned back to Mario.
“The emerald. You still have it, don’t you?”
The raccoon plumber nodded and retrieved the gem from under his hat. It’s green radiance filled the room as it was presented to the gang. There was a brief moment of silence as everyone stared at it.
“Well, that’s a relief.” Shadow folded his arms, “At least you all managed to do SOMETHING right.”
With the green emerald in his hand, Mario had just realized that he was subconsciously tapping into its power. The raccoon plumber focused on withdrawing himself from the stone and soon enough he began to glow again. The others shielded their eyes from the harsh green rays with the light bright enough to be seen from Toad Town.
After a few seconds the light had faded and there Mario only with raccoon ears and a tail. He blinked in surprise.
“Ah, just as I thought!” Said Professor E. Gadd, “The transformation must’ve been triggered by both the Chaos Emerald and the Super Leaf! Now this all makes sense.”
“Super Leaf, huh? What is a Super Leaf any way?” Sonic asked scratching his head.
“It’s a power-up Weegee and I use that give us raccoon ears and tails.” Mario answered, “But it only allows us to fly and hit other things with our tails. It never gave us the ability to attack with leaves or turn to stone at will.”
“That’s because your Chaos Emerald had amplified the power of the Super Leaf when you powered-up. Giving you a wider range of abilities that may somehow be related to the leaf. Also, I believe it would only make sense that your animal form would be similar to Sonic and his friends being from the same dimension.” E. Gadd stated.
When Mario thought about the whole thing it did seem to make sense. Although he had attained the emerald first, he did not transform until he touched the super leaf.
“Professor, do you think the Chaos Emeralds may have the same affect on all the other power-ups just like the Super Leaf?” He asked curiously.
“Well I certainly wouldn’t be surprised if they did, Mario. Seeing how you entered my quarters as anthropomorphic raccoon a few minutes ago, my guess is that anything can happen with these odd gems.”
Just then something hit Shadow. If the Chaos Emeralds were capable of turning Mario into a mobian raccoon and giving him new abilities then there’s no telling what would happen if Bowser or any of his goons got a hold of them.
“Guys, I think it’s best that we—Hey guys!! What’s happening?!” Shadow was suddenly caught off when Bolette yelled in the doorway still injured.
“Oh look! Mario’s not a furry anymore!” She added.
“Bolette??!” Luigi exclaimed surprised, “How the heck did you get here?! You’re still hurt!”
“Yeah, E. Gadd’s place is at least one mile away from the Comet Observatory. How did get here so fast in such an injured state?” Tails asked.
“Huh? Oh yeah, right! My new friend just flew me here when I told him about you and Yoshi!” She responded.
“New friend?...” Mario said confused. “Since when did you just--Hey guys!” He was also interrupted when a figure appeared next to Bolette. It was a yellow, four-armed, winged Yoshi with light blue shoes, spikes, and saddle.
“My name’s Tropical. I just flew down from Cumulus City when I heard that Tails and the others had crossed over to our world. Bolette told me all about you guys being here and fighting Bowser and Eggman. Man, I can’t believe Tails is here I’m such a big fan!” The parayoshi said cheerfully.
Almost everyone in the room stared at Tropical baffled as Shadow planted his face in his palm and sighed.
“I swear all this madness is never going to end…”

Ugh, FINALLY! I've been getting kinda lazy lately. Drawing other things, making a Deadpool plushie, trying to clone myself ect.
So yeah this is what full-raccoon Mario looks like. I'm thinking about doing another Chaos Emerald+Power-up+Plumber=Mobian awesomeness in the future. Except with Luigi of course. So yeah Peach is told about Shadow's past and why he looks after her and all that. Also, incase your wondering, the four-armed yellow parayoshi, Tropical, at the end is one of my friend's OCs. You'll see more of him in the next chapter and even in action in the future. And also why he's familiar with Sonic and the gang. I thought it would be funny to have him and my own OC be friends.
