Description
Just some swift bug concepts... to have something to work on. I'm usually forget the sketch phase (making variations) when I do a painting. I just set out and end up with whatever comes up. I guess I'm trying to become more thorough.Related content

I really like the one on the top right and the one on the lower left. They just have that fierceness and intimidation that I really like, especially when I'm looking at dragon pictures.

Yeah I do that too. But sometimes -every- sketch looks too good to pass up. Just like your concepts here.

They're great pictures of critters, but they don't really reflect insect anatomy if that's what you're going for.

These are bug-like 'aliens', if you want. If I had wanted to stay true to authentic instect anatomy I would have looked at refs before making them. I call them Bugs, because that's what I used as inspiration, and what they make me think about.

Ah well no problems there then Being an amateur entomologist I tend to be a bit hypersensitive when people call things 'bugs' when they aren't bugs, and often aren't even insects.

I see. I think it is the same thing with all/any specific motifs. Painting is about tricking the eye into belief, but it is certainly harder to trick the expert eye. If you look at trees for example, you will see that most painted spruce are only estimations or suggestions of how spruces look, and don't really follow actual spruce "anatomy". I'm not a biologist or tree expert, but I have watched spruces enough to know that what I normally do is cheating, when painting spruce and pine-trees.
Example: [link]
It is not my ignorance that makes me paint the trees like this... I just don't feel like doing it the proper way. Making art and doing science illustrations are very different imo. The weirdest thing of all is when you meet people that think they have a degree in dragon anatomy and make a big deal about it.
This latest part isn't about you, my friend. So I hope you're not BUGged about it.

Hehe not at all, that makes a lot of sense, especially if you're familiar with the 'Uncanny Valley' theory.

I'm familiar with the theory, but I didn't know it had such a cool name. Sounds like a nice horror novel.

I personally like the left-middle one, has the best shape and looks speedy.
