Sometimes you just want things to make sense. Unfortunately, you sometimes also have to first jettison some dead weight if you want to do that. Bryan seems rather happy to hear that they're finally getting rid of said deadweight, and - as such - hopefully moving on to meaningful answers. Meanwhile, should anyone want him, JJ Abrams seems to have some plot holes for sale at Cloverfield Park (although I'm not entirely sure punching holes in books is how that actually works).

Personally, I think Abrams' working method is to take loose leaf scripts of the original trilogy, throw them in the air, pick up a bunch of random pages, and change most of the proper names.

This theory would certainly explain much about JJ Abrams, including the fact he's never able to actually explain anything afterwards.
