Description
Badgerkit curled himself into a tighter ball at the edge of the nest, wrapping his tail around him like a protective barrier with his chin resting on his paws. He sighed as he opened his eyes, failing to sleep once again. He flicked an ear at the sound of the nest rustling. Slatekit and Rubblekit had readjusted themselves, but both were already fast asleep, tucked into each other for warmth, still and silent as they waited for Creekpelt to return from night patrol. The other sound he pick up was on the other side of the den near the wall. Lilystream purred softly as she suckled Mudkit and Petalkit as she slept.Feeling empty, Badgerkit scooted even further away from his littermates, almost to the point where he was barely in the nest at all. He wanted nothing to do with his brother and sister. Not after today. He'd show them...and Blackflame too! He'd show them that no matter how small he was, he was going to be a warrior! The best warrior there ever was!
"No RiverClan cat has ever been so little."
"Mite-kitty! Mite-kitty!"
"Is it even possible to make a cat his size a warrior, or even an apprentice?"
"I doubt he'll become a 'paw on time. He's quite an undersized kit, even a kittypet could swallow him in one gulp."
Badgerkit fought the sob that hardened in the form of a lump in his throat. Why didn't his siblings like him? Why didn't even his own father like him? He couldn't help that he was tiny. He'd grow if he had the ability to do so at his own will. He'd be as tall as a tree and as wide and muscular as a dog if it were up to him. But no. StarClan must have cursed him to be the size of a squirrel for his family to ridicule and put down.
Suddenly, the entrance of the den rustled and his mother's comforting scent drifted into his nostrils.
Creekpelt had returned at last.
The gray tabby slunk in, sleek as a fish and quiet as a mouse, and crept over to her litter. Badgerkit closed his eyes as she slid into the nest, momentarily prodding Rubblekit and Slatekit awake with her muzzle. They both awoke grumbling as Creekpelt settled in and tucked them close to her belly, shushing them with gentle words of reassurance and licking them in a smooth wash with her tongue. Badgerkit kept his eyes shut until it was clear that his bigger littermates were sleeping again. It wasn't a second or so later when he felt Creekpelt's nose poke him on the neck. "Badgerkit."
He pretended to remain asleep.
A paw scooped him up and moved him back into the nest. A tongue lapped at his ears. "I know you're awake, my dear."
Growling halfway to himself, Badgerkit opened his eyes and craned his neck around to gaze at his mother's blue eyes. "Hello, Creekpelt," he mewed quietly.
"Hello, Badgerkit," she purred back, nuzzling him affectionately. "What's keeping you from sleeping? A bad dream?"
It was sort of like that, Badgerkit guessed. Except this nightmare didn't require being asleep. "Sort of."
Gentle as a cloud, Creekpelt nestled him in between her folded legs, washing him for a moment as if to comfort him silently, then pulled away. "I'm very sorry about today, my precious warrior," she whispered, her eyes misty. "Blackflame...he just...I don't know, he's just not the same tom I remember being so excited over becoming a father. Not that same tom that vowed to love his kits no matter what." She blanked out for a moment, then came back. "I'm very proud of you, Badgerkit. Extremely proud. I'm just happy to have you here. I know that you will become a great cat one day. I can feel it."
"Wanna bet?" Badgerkit snorted, resting against his mother's leg. "What wrong with me? Blackflame likes Slatekit and Rubblekit just fine, just 'cause they're bigger. They'll be the ones who grow up and make the Clan proud, not dumb little puny me." Referring to himself made Badgerkit's mouth taste bitter.
Creekpelt sniffed. "Now Badgerkit," she mewed. "There are plenty of cats out there who started out small, and do you know what happened after time went by? After moons and seasons passed?"
Badgerkit held eye contact with his mother.
"They grew bigger and stronger," she meowed, pressing her cheek against his. "They trained hard as 'paws, hunted with skill, fought with fierceness, and never ever gave up on themselves no matter who was there to judge them or tell them that they would never make it."

An old Warriors OC story from 2010
I actually like this one a bit, actually xD It told the story of my RiverClan OC Badgerstar , who started out as a puny pipsqueak of a kitten who was harassed by his siblings and neglected by his father due to his pathetically small size. After being blessed by an omen, he overcame many obstacles and trials, and eventually became RiverClan's leader.
Like I said, it's five years old, but I think this is the only old story of mine I found that I actually found enjoyable. I might even do a reboot someday...I dunno.
