Spinel is about to make the hardest choice she's ever had to make.

So there was a few changes to Spinel's story.
You all remembered how she started, right? As a low status-gem, recruited by Epidote to plota gainst Homeworld, even to go so far as to destroy it. Over the years, Spinel was lead to believe Epidote cared for her, but she realized that she never would. Epidote only cared about her plan. So Spinel reported her to Homeworld authorities, but Epidote escaped. Presumably on Earth. Spinel was glad to have her gone, because if Epidote was trapped on a planet marked for destruction, Spinel could rest easy.
Spinel's status was raised... She was known as a hero. She was seen as above the common gem or even the average Spinel, for once, a gem bcame more than they were meant to. She was given a new future, through Epidote. She became what Homeworld wanted her to be, a tool, a warrior, whatever they needed, whatever she wanted. And she was fine with that, until she had to spy on the Crystal Gems during the Rebellion.
She tried to keep to herself. She tried not to get attached. But she did. She made friends. She loved, she fused, she fought. She almost identified with the Crystal Gems... She almost thought she could be one. But fear crippled her, she was so afraid of what could happen to her, she decided she had to save herself. So she betrayed the Crystal Gems. She reported their location and regrouped with a Homeworld scout team. She didn't take part in her friends' capture or shattering. She was too ashamed of herself, too afraid of the looks her former allies would give her.
She was transferred to Dark Pink Diamond's Court. Before it was dismantled. Spinel joined his court, but she still had a side mission assigned to her and three other gems to scout the universe and find planets to harvest. And she did that. For decades. She worked alongside with people she didn't know or trusted, people she didn't even like. People who weren't even kind to her.
But Dark Pink Dimaond was. He treated her like a person, not because of what she was, or what she did, but for who she was, or in his own words, 'who she could be.' Spinel didn't know how to interpret these words, she didn't think she could be anything else but this monster she had become. She grew depressed from this feeling of helplessness, her despair at what she had done. She felt hollow and empty. She didn't know what to do.
Dark Pink Diamond, however, revealed his opinions on Earth. He spoke out about his ideas, how there were different ways for them to utilize Earth, and Spinel found herself agreeing with his reasons. But she began to doubt him. She mnew Homeowlrd wouldn't agree. Homeworld wouldn't listen. They would just take and take and take and break and break and break. And she would be one of the ones broken if she were open about her opinions, if she dared to utter a word in disagrement to Homworld. So she moved away from him. She left his cause and did her job. And continued to work against everything she cared about. And gated it. Until Ulexite joined her group, and by teaching her about fusion and other things, she taught her that there was hope.
Spinel heard rumors of DPD, that he was alive, maybe even living on Earth, no one was sure. She could only be sure if she attempted to contact him. Buf if she did, there was a chance he wouldn't respond. That he COULDN'T respond. Anyone could listen in, anyone. Even against all odds, Epidote could be listening. And if Homeworld found out about her trying to contact Earth, she's risking shattering. Or worse. But if she doesn't call she'll never know. She'll be trapped in this life she hates. For as long as she lives. But if DPD is alive, and planning to make a comeback, she can make amends, even help put an end to Homeworld's tyranny... For once she could do soemthing that matters for once. So she has to make a choice.
