Mayko could feel the parasite insider her squirming. Despite the heavy amount of pain killers and assortment of other drugs they had said would numb the area for surgery she could still feel its serpentine body slithering just under the muscles. She tried to scream, to warn the doctor that it was coming but the drugs that warded off the pain also prevented her from speech.
Mouth agape she could barley keep her eyes open, mouth working in slow patterns she tried to push aside the feeling of the knife on her belly, slowly cutting through muscles to reach the creature. Though there was no pain, it felt wrong – like the cords of a piano slowly being cut only to fall slack. The cutting was almost as horrible as the creature, that seemed to sense the assault on its home and in turn was trying to wriggle deeper into her.

It felt wrong. So very very wrong, like she had swallowed a live snake, that was now trying to escape from her innards at whatever cost.

‘Almost there – Nurse, we need more suction here.’ The voice of the doctor carried over the distance, though it felt as though he were speaking from miles away.

‘Doctor?’ She tried to say, only to have the words fall out as a low moan.

‘Come on! We need to work quickly, its on the move if we don’t isolate it we may lose it before we can get it to a cryopod. Her heart rate rising, give her another dose.’

Cryopod? That made no sense to her. They were… Mayko’s mind drifted as a second wave of the drugs flooded her system, then, darkness.
