"How is Mom's little Infidel doing today? Good to see you back on your feet, well, what's left of them anyways." A taller masculine version of herself loomed over her. "What did you say you were doing now, Tiger training or something?"

Amenii smiled despite herself.

"Nice to see you to Bro."

"Come here." Before she could protest he had wrapped his arms around her. "It's good to see you too little sister."

She let him hold her, it was good to see his face after so long. He hadn't changed much, he was still that boyish troublemaker that she had left behind what felt so long ago now.

"How's Mum." Amenii asked hesitantly.

"Oh you know, she's up in antics about the state of things, you're still her favorite subject though. All I have to do to set her off is mention your name, and Bang! she's at it!" He drove his fist into an open palm to emphasize the words. "Which does bring us to a bit of a hairy topic."

"Oh, God. If this is about what happened last time we spoke - I told her very clearly I was not being held in a rape dungeon by a psychotic predator!"

"Yeah, about that..." Rubbing the back of his head absently he avoided her gaze. "She sorta, said a few things, and long story short, She wants you to come home for Thanks Giving..."

Of all the things Amenii had expected from her mother that was not among them.

"What?"

"Yeah."

"Did she say anything about Nera?"

"Is that her name? She said a lot of things, but refused to offer any direct invitation, I suspect she knows you'll bring her along. Just don't be to suppressed if she doesn't pull out the red carpet." He paused for a moment. "So, how are things going with Nera anyway."

There was something in her voice, concern, maybe.

"Fine." Amenii snapped, that was a little far from the truth. "We're fine."

"Right. I didn't mean to pry." Another awkward pause. "So, I'll let Mom know that her Little Infidel and the Spawn of Satan are coming home for dinner in a few days."

Amenii could already feel a headache coming on.

"Oh, one more thing. It would mean a lot to Her if you would wear your head Vail."

"No." Her voice was flat. "And that's not negotiable."

A smile curled over her brothers lips.

"Didn't think so. But you know Mom, I promised her I would try my best to persuade you." He looked her in the eyes, seriously this time.
"You know it would go a long way if you did. It means a lot to her."

That hurt, even after all this time.

"The answer is still no."

He shrugged, "See you in a few days sis."

And with that he was gone.
