Description
Now that school is out for summer I'm trying to go back and finish some of the projects that I didn't get the chance to finish during the semester. Also, I just upgraded from Maya 2010 to 2012, this was the first project I've done on it.
I've added more detail to the vase and made lots of changes to the lighting. I also used one of the "substance shaders" for the ground, which is one of the new features of Maya 2012.
I also experimented with raytrace shadows on this render, and for the first time I tried messing with render passes. I did a depth, ambient occlusion, and beauty pass during the render. For the lighting I had two spot lights each emitting 15 shadow rays and 10,000 photons.
After it was all said and done, the render took about 11.5 hours. I'm positive I could have cut it down to about 1 or 2.. the photons were pretty redundant as I didn't get the caustic effects from the vase I was looking for, and I'm sure I could have knocked the shadow rays down to 2 or 3 and gotten the same outcome, but no regrets, it was a learning process.

Exquisite design. That bowl is huge! The render is really nice but it's almost difficult to see the silver in the center. I know the design from your previous posting of this but it may not be as apparent to a new viewer.

hehe thanks
Yea I actually bought that bowl separate, its a vortex bowl, and it works wayyy better than the one it came with. It's pretty cool because the holes aren't at the bottom of the bowl, they are on the sides, so when the bowl gets hot all the juices from the shisha don't drip down the stem they stay in the bowl... makes the smoke much more enjoyable and flavorful.
You know, that is very true about the silver in the middle, I kinda noticed that about halfway through the render (6 hours in) I just couldn't get myself to stop the render after that long I plan on adding hoses and a charcoal on top so when I do the render on that one I'll fix it. Thanks for the little critique

It's an electronic smoking device that heats the tobacco product exactly to it's burning point and pumps the smoke into a detachable loose plastic bag. There are no flames. The effects of the product are most potent when released at the exact point of ignition. The moment it becomes smoke is when it's best. When you overheat it you destroy important compounds causing it loose it's intensity, as well as a lot of it's natural flavors. Try one if you ever have the chance. It's always a very clean flavor. It never tastes burnt.
