Description
This version with backdrop...Cale Black and Lita Heaney - two main characters from my never-to-be-published novel 'Silhouettes'. They're mercenaries enlisted into a global peacekeeping 'Earth Guard' operation, and have many conflicts and issues, not to mention a strong romantic tension.
Cale Black
Served as a Lance Corporal with the Australian Special Air Service during the Timor emergency of 1999. Went AWOL during said operation to pursue enemy militia force into Indonesian West Timor and rescue a large group of hostages. Black achieved this goal alone, but was subsequently discharged from the military for disobedience, ignoring a UN directive, and encroaching into Indonesian sovereign territory (this was a move by the Australian government designed to pacify the Indonesians).
Black then became a mercenary. Fought in Afghanistan against the emerging Neo-Taliban rebels. Then in Panama. Chechnya against the Russians alongside the rebel forces. Also Bosnia, The Philippines, and The Congo.
Cale Black was diagnosed as borderline psychotic after the events in Timor, apparently suffering from some level of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. Treatment was never sought, but observations indicate a suicidal impulse. Black is non-conventional; known to engage in light-hearted banter during exchanges of gunfire, but can turn rapidly and unexpectedly to brutal rage (possible Schizophrenia).
Black is an excellent, highly-trained combatant in all areas. Enlisted into Earth Guard Cell-1 in January 2007. Has a distinguishing scar on his left cheek sustained from close-proximity gunshot during the Timor event.
Lita Heaney
A militant member of the radical terrorist group, the ‘Irish Nationalist Force’. Heaney became involved with the INF after the imprisonment and subsequent suicide of her brother, Shawn Heaney, and also possibly at the behest of then-boyfriend Gavin McConaughey, both of whom were suspected INF members.
In 2003, Heaney was involved in the bombing of a British Army checkpoint near Newry in Northern Ireland. A homemade bomb was planted near the guardhouse structure, and resulted in the deaths of five British soldiers. Lita Heaney exposed herself by diverting a school bus that was approaching the checkpoint just before the time of the attack. She was arrested and charged, sentenced to life in prison. She refused to reveal the identities of any INF members who aided in the bombing.
Heaney is physically fit and trained in guerrilla tactics. Served 2 years, 6 months of sentence at Charlesbrook Woman’s Prison. Was extracted for enlistment into Earth Guard Cell-1 in January 2007.

if it makes no difference, no.
because it sounds like maybe a boring job

Trying takes effort that could be better spent in the pursuit of not trying.
I've hit the publishers, and innumerable literary agents - no dice. New writers aren't generally welcomed into the game with open arms. Kinda ran out of options.

Wow. With the background, this looks even more impressive. I rememeber reading parts of your story at peelified...it's a shame it won't be published. Either way, though, your art for it is awesome.

Yay for backgrounds! It's very aggressive and striking, and contrasts well with the colouring of your characters. And I really like the cammo effect. I was in an Army disposals store today, and had great fun straining my memory to match the various patterns to their countries.
My only criticism is that Lita's uniform apparently has boob socks. Or maybe it's just a conveniently molded chest plate. But the detail on the boots makes up for it

Thanks heaps
The camouflage is a real time-consuming bastard to do, especially doing the cell-shading shadow effect manually for all the differently coloured patches... ugh.
I tend to shop in army disposal stores myself. The BDU pants' design agrees with me, though nowadays I usually only get them in black - camouflage has taken on a very negative imperialistic redneck connotation these days due to current world events.
Boob socks, eh? Ha, I like that term. I dunno, she's a fairly well-endowed lady. The text of the novel notes briefly in one of the early chapters her bemusment at the providence of 'feminine-cut' flack jackets among Earth Guard's equipment.
