The rolling thunder came ever so closer to the stables as Fred walked towards the pastures. The wind blew the tall oaks as if they were nimble twigs, twisting a turning their branches. Fred quickened his pace as the lightning flashed, keeping his eye out for the last mare, Fallacy, who needed to be brought into the stables. Jenny had gone out into the Hills to search for Angela. She had been spending much of her hours in a hidden meadow with Warren ever since she and Fred had that fight. She always brought along her music and a few books that she hoped would release her thoughts from the tall red head.

He has felt guilty the moment he left Angela standing there in the barn. Sure, it was true what he said. He did give up college and a career as an engineer to be a trainer at CSS, he twisted this fact however. He was happy he quit college and came here, though what he said to Angela gave a whole different view. She must think herself to be a horrible, cruel person, but actually she is the best person Fred has ever known. Angela was the sole reason he ever joined the staff. When he waked into the office he was wonderstruck; not only was she beautiful but she was intelligent, and knew so many things about horses. She had such a fiery spirit, and a determination to make CSS work, and that was what drew him in. He wanted something different, not just any stable that goes with the flow or is only in it for the money. Angela was in it for the horses, and for giving her staff a successful career and a good home.

Fred didn't know what was going to happen next, but what he did know that he cared for Angela, and he would do anything to take back what he said...

Also he knew he had to find Fallacy before she got struck by lightning. If Angela found out that her beloved steed's pregnant mate was killed along with her baby, it would crush her.

"Fallacy!" Fred said, followed by a long, low whistle. "Where are ya girl?"

In the corner of the pasture, behind the shrubs he spotted a white mass and heard a soft nicker. Fred jumped the fence and jogged over to where the mare lay, only to see her on her side, breathing heavy.

"Seriously?! You have to go into labor now?!" Fred cried. Fallacy couldn't give birth out here, not with the storm approaching fast. He rubbed the white mares hind quarters, trying to urge her up. When that didn't work he pushed her a little, forcing her to roll on her bulging belly. With that accomplishment he grabbed Fallacy's halter and tried to pull her up, but she was stubborn not to move.

"Come on!" Fred grunted. "Do you want to die?!" As if on cue a flash of lightning lit the sky, and the mare bolted to her feet. Fred, holding onto her lead with his good hand, walked the mare as fast as she would go. A few agonizingly long minutes later they arrived in the stable, and Fred lead her to her birthing stall. With out hesitation he called Sky and Ben to tell them that Fallacy went into labor early. Moments later the heavens opened up, unleashing torrential rain, and the soaking wet Sky and Ben ran into the Stable. When they saw Fallacy it was clear she was in distress. She had never given birth before, and she was scared.

"Where is Jenny when you need her?" Ben said, drying his hair with a towel. "She could whisper to her to calm her down."

"And Angela isn't here either. We can't go looking for them in this rain, and not with Fal in this condition. She'll need all of us."

"What do we do then? I never actually saw a horse give birth..." the young jockey said, wringing out her pony tail.

"I've helped deliver foals, so I can handle it." Fred said, watching the mare breath heavy. "I'm warning ya, it's her first so it's going to be a long night."

--

The night had fallen and the rain hadn't let up. Back in the Hills the two girls and their horses were holed up in a rock cave while the rain poured down. Luckily they had blankets too keep them warm, a lantern, and a few nutrition bars. They also had Angela's books and music to keep them busy.

"SO what happens if a bear, cougar or wolf comes in here looking to get out of the rain?" Angela said, taking a bite out of her bar.

"Well," Jenny started, "Warren could take care of them, and Rev could freak them out with her glowy-ness." Warren stood by Angela protectively, and Rev was illuminating the back of the cave with her markings. Angela turned off the lantern, realizing they had adequate light from the Ravequine.

"I hope they didn't come looking for us in this weather. And I hope they don't worry too much!" Angela said, looking out into the rain, thinking about her friends.

"Nah, they're probably busy with something else."

--

Jenny couldn't have been more psychic. The remaining three staff members worked Fallacy through her foaling the whole night. By 2am, the foal was born. Excited voices floated out of the stable door...

"Look at it Ben! It's here!"

"I know Sky, it made it. We all did."

Fred wiped the sweat off his brow as he gazed at the chestnut colt laying in the hay. He opened his eyes and started to move about. There was light fur around his eyes, the sign that he would gray out into a beautiful stallion. All of them had survived the rough night with out harm. He smiled at Ben and Sky. Ben smiled back but Sky had a look of confusion on her face.

"Sky what's wrong?" Fred asked.

"I... I think there is something wrong with him..." Sky said, pointing at the new born foal. Fred inspected the colt more closely, and a moment later his heart sunk.

"Oh no..."
