I did drive 300 miles to get him and 300 miles back home.
He was born blind, collie eye anomaly, and was being fostered with Indiana Collie Rescue. After Katrina hit in 2005, dogs were coming up having been orphaned from the storm. Rescues were hit with an influx of dogs that had been once used for bait dogs in dog fighting rings. These dogs were injured and probably stolen from their original owners before being used as bait dogs. As rescues hoped to reunite these special needs dogs with their owners, plans had to be made to house these dogs for a prolonged duration to give these assumed original owners time to find their dogs. My adopting Baxter opened up a spot for an injured bait collie from Katrina.
So that's how that happened.

I used to be very active in Collie Rescue in 2001 and 2002, I had to stop due to the emotional toll, but I still own 4 collies and 3 are rescues. I was one of two original founders of Minnesota Wisconsin Collie Rescue. I am happy to see that it is still going strong.

That's sweet of you to help the collies. It does take an emotional toll. My baxter was from Indiana collie rescue, but I plan on getting more involved with Illinois collie rescue. Seems like the right thing to do.. Thanks Again for the watch and the help you've given my collie club. I should compile a list of collie rescue organizations for the club and put it in one of the journals...

I'm sure you've seen blue merle collies, Baxter is a brown merle, which give him a little different coloring. There are alos red merle collies too but I have never seen one.

He is 8 now I think.. He looks older because he's blind, but he was born that way. Its called Collie Eye Anomaly
