Description Well I'm glad that's finally done! It was quite the undertaking!! I probably could have gotten this up on here yesterday If I hadn't sat on the crown and had to remake it and if one of the wings and the eyelashes didn't pop off. UGH!

Media:
Sculpted polymer clay (Sculpey Primo) on Celestia bait. Americana craft acrylics sealed with matte Mod-Podge and clear nail polish in places.

Noooooo....it took way too much time and effort. Maybe if someone offers me enough money I'll make another one.

If you don't mind my asking, how did you bake it? Did you bake it along with the bait? Or was it air-dry clay?

Woah! I love, love, love her mane! *w* It's absolutely great! And the legs are done well ^^ Only one what I don't like too much is her eye! But except this - she's perfect!

The pupil and iris are great. I love the skady. But I think the overline ( especially the eyelid) would look better as a bit smoother. WOah OwO I don't know how to say it in English correctly ;w;
I hope you understood me ;w;

I think it looks a bit weird in the photos because I added wire eyelashes that don't show up well. (:

Dang you're good! Now is Sculpey Primo clay air-dry or oven-bake?

Primo is softer and easier to work with.

I think I found my favourite new pony customizer. Your sculpting skills are simply superb and I thoroughly enjoy how you interpreted her design in this custom. I really do hope you do other pony customs because man, this has literally left me speechless

Snap! Sweet wings. The sculpting and paint job both look so smooth~ Have you ever taken any art classes?

Colour-Splashes In reply to Amandkyo-Su [2012-05-23 00:27:49 +0000 UTC]

Yes I have, and I'm an artist semi-professionally. I've always enjoyed sculpting onto and around things, like driftwood and bones and occasionally beads.
Here's a few tricks I use to make everything smoother. Yeah it's time consuming but it really makes a difference.
-While sculpting make sure every surface is as uniform and even as possible. Use a clay roller or pasta machine and smooth out surfaces with baby oil or clay softener.
-Clean up fingerprints and rough edges with sandpaper. Always start with a lower grade (rougher) then go back over it with a higher grade (smoother) for a soft, even surface. Remember: dark paint will expose every imperfection!
-Use soft watercolor brushes and apply paint in thin layers.
-When you seal it, water down your Mod-Podge. It tends to leave streaks if you don't.

Oo~ You're interesting

Thank you for the tips! You're so kind for sharing that information! I've been using acrylic brushes (I'm not all that sure what they are) and the results have been sub-par. Do the watercolor brush hair have to be made from something in particular?

I already water down my sealer but sometimes I use too much water ( ^__^; )

Colour-Splashes In reply to Amandkyo-Su [2012-05-23 00:38:49 +0000 UTC]

I'd say look for brushes that are labeled watercolor brushes. They're really soft and usually made from animal fur. I found a decent pack of 5 for like $7 at Michaels. If you feel like your sealer is too thin you can always add another coat! (:

I actually like sharing my tips and tricks with folks because I enjoy seeing good works produced, and besides no one would ever learn anything if information was hoarded!

Amandkyo-Su In reply to Colour-Splashes [2012-05-23 00:44:23 +0000 UTC]

There are a few Michaels in NYC so I think I can find a pack. Thanks! I don't know much about art stuff so you've helped a lot with those tips.

You can add another coat? I thought it would get too thick and then mess up the entire project! I won't have to worry anymore~

You're too kind <3 Thank you for being so selfless!

Colour-Splashes In reply to Amandkyo-Su [2012-05-23 01:01:30 +0000 UTC]

I always liked the Michael's on Columbus. Nice folks. You ought to go over to the Dick Blick on Bond St cause it's totally awesome! Their brushes will be more expensive but they're fancy brushes. The place is staffed by art students who are more than happy to give you advice and recommend stuff. It's really the best art supply store ever.

If you're worried about sealer being too thick/thin, just test it out on a small spot first and wait for it to dry!

I've been to the Michael's in Manhattan twice and they were understocked. I guess I choose the worst times to go ( ^_^; )

I rarely go around Bond St. I didn't know there was an art store there! Sweetness. I wanna try using better brushes now so I don't mind paying a bit more ;D I'm lucky to be talking to someone who know their way about a paint brush. A lot of my artist friends get their supplies at Pearl Paint but I don't like the brushes over there :/
