Description
Well I'm glad that's finally done! It was quite the undertaking!! I probably could have gotten this up on here yesterday If I hadn't sat on the crown and had to remake it and if one of the wings and the eyelashes didn't pop off. UGH!Media:
Sculpted polymer clay (Sculpey Primo) on Celestia bait. Americana craft acrylics sealed with matte Mod-Podge and clear nail polish in places.

I wish I could sculpt I'm terrible at that hahaha we all have our strong points and our weak ones thats what makes us all so interesting. also its nice when people can help each other out to learn how to do something new. My friends and i often have craft days and since we are all into different things we all bring different projects to work on and show each other how to do it. it's really a great thing to share knowledge thats why i love seeing your WIP photos! they are really great. often i like looking at WIP pics better than finish pics. I have been taking a few progress pictures of my new cosplay and i'll probably post them all up when i'm done.. if i finish. The internet is a great thing!....now back to work hahahahaha oops

I'll have to post more WIP pics! I like seeing others' WIP pics too. It's a great way to compare notes and get ideas.

Are those teeth in the first picture!? I'm still wondering why she has cheese legs, maybe some of the changelings bit her because they were hungry?

Those were handy, yes ^^ I knew the layering of paint and such, but I wonder, have you tried Super Sculpey Firm? I use mostly that, it can not be tooled with pasta machine due its hardness but it allows super smooth and even shapes that can be sculpted with knives as well as allows seamless adding of mass, with repeated baking you can harden it to rock like hardness and even polish it really shiny.

You used acrylic?! How in the name of Celestia did you make it look so smooth?
Whenever I paint with acrylics, they always get so rough looking.

Acrylic craft paints not tube acrylics. Though you can achieve the same effect with tube acrylics by watering it down and using a watercolor brush.

If you poke around my journals I've posted a bunch of advice in the comments. I don't remember exactly where but if you can find it that should also be pretty helpful.

The fact that you used a Celestia bait makes it even more awesome : O I'm just about to get a rarity bait from a friend. I hope I can custom it well xD

Really fantastic work! Not only in the details but in how you achieve a very smooth looking sculpture with such clean flowing lines.

So you did this with some kind of clay ?
It's surprising that the wings hold or have the pieces been pre-produces and hardened and put together later on ?
However, a great result.

Colour-Splashes In reply to Shockowaffel [2012-06-04 06:51:09 +0000 UTC]
I used Sculpey Primo, a brand of polymer clay, which is a low-temp oven bake plastic 'clay.' The wings are translucent Sculpey as well, which is a bit more flexible than regular Sculpey when baked correctly. I baked the wings separately and glued them on with a small reinforcement piece. Over the past couple weeks they've actually drooped so that the wingtips are parallel to the tabletop. It's fine, though. (:

Are her wings translucent Sculpey, or something different?

Colour-Splashes In reply to Sawkinator [2012-06-03 03:29:06 +0000 UTC]
Yep! Translucent with a touch of aqua thrown in there. I really like the translucent cause its very flexible and doesn't break easily.
