I swear to you, this picture has not been 'shopped or otherwise modified in anyway. That is a real, live hummingbird in my hand.Story behind the picture: my parents' house in Evanston has a lot of window which, despite Mum's best efforts, still get the occasional bird that flies into them. This hummingbird was one of the lucky ones--he was only stunned and was not seriously injured by the impact. I was actually able to hold him for about an hour and give him some "juice" from a nearby feeder--and let me tell you, those little buggers have a TIGHT grip! Eventually he flew off under his own power, so I like to think he's still out there doing whatever hummingbirds do around this time of year.

That's really cool. I've only seen one once...and I couldn't even see the wings because it was going so fast. I wish I could hold one!

The picture is rather impressive. Maybe your parents should mark their windows with stickers or something colourful (like window decoration material) or the like, so the birds will not fly into them (if they don't do that already).
Over here we usually use stickers shaped like birds to prevent birds from flying into windows.

We've tried all of that and then some--problem is some of the windows are 30 feet above the ground, and I'm the only one that can get up there to mark them. And since I'm in college nine months out of the year, excluding breaks . . .

If you like this little guy, I have a ton more of him. I was surprised at the actual weight on him--he almost compared to MY parakeet (although he's small for a budgie).

I had one sit on my finger once, when I put it up to the feeder, but I've never held one
