Description
My recreation of the library from the 1993 best selling PC game, "Myst".My big project for this month is to recreate Myst island in it's entirety.
I not only modeled the exterior but also the interior. This has been really fun to do.
fully modeled every thing seen. All the books and frames and floorboards. I really like the way the molding around the alcoves.
Modeled: Rhino 4.0
Rendered: Rhino 4.0
Time: 15 hours approx.

Oh man, fun times back when I played Myst.
It's been a while, but the modeling and the mood feel just like I remember.
Best of luck on your mission!

Very cool. I love the texture of the wood, but I think it'd be better if it were a little darker (although it was quite bright in the original as well)... I'd also put a slight bumpmap on the wood texture, so the light reflections on the pillars and bottom have a little more definition.

Thanks. Actually every surface has a bumpmap. I might turn up the intensity though.

Yeah, just a little bit though. Even if you took the bumpmap itself and softened it, while increasing the depth/intensity of it in your modeler. That way it wouldn't look so deep (because of the softening, as if a thick lacquer were on the wood) but still be noticable.
And you're welcome. Good luck with your Myst project. I can't wait to see the power-house and planetarium!

Planetarium is next BTW.
This is kind of interesting. Ok. So I'm using "RealMyst", the Myst remake, as my main structure reference. Since the game is full 3d I can move around and see all the different angles. BUT. Whats ironic is that the original modeling from 1993 Myst is more detailed. The original models ever used bumpmaping. I just thought that was interesting.

Yeah, I've played both, and I loved RealMyst (especially the day/night cycles), but the pictures in the original (or better yet, the "Masterpiece Edition) were better quality overall. Because of system limitations when RM came out, surfaces couldn't be rounded too much, rendered on-the-fly and still have the game run at a playable speed. I first noticed it on the basin in front of the library. It's round in the pre-rendered pictures in Myst, but it's more angular and overall less detailed in RM.

Thanks but I don't think I could. I use NURBS and polysurface modeling. Not Meshes.
