I wish this had really happened because Thor would have never let go.

It wasn't Thor that let go, but Loki. Either way, it was beautiful, heartbreaking scene, and i hope i have done some justice to it.

Oh yes, you did. I know Loki let go, but if Thor had been holding him, he wouldn't have been able to. But you're right, it was heart breaking. The way he was treated through the whole movie was terrible.

I knew, by the stereotypical hero's journey formula, that, eventually, Thor would gain some maturity, patience, and competence to match his strength. And though Chris Hemsworth is charming off-screen, and that moment between him and Natalie Portman talking about the Nine Realms was fascinating, I still like Tom better, both as Loki and off-screen. To quote from Martin Short, "Naughty-list people have more fun." Unquote, or so I've heard anyway.
That scene was so heart-breaking. When Odin said, "No Loki.", he said both the right thing and the wrong thing. The right thing because Loki didn't have to what he did to prove he was worthy to his father. And the wrong thing because, if you look at it from Loki's perspective, he will never measure up to Thor no matter what he does. Hopelessness is what drove him to let go, but I knew from liking tricksters for a number of years that he would be back. Tricksters are hard to put down permanently, and they always have a way of reappearing to kick your ass just when you think you're done with them forever.

I quite agree. I hadn't really been into this genre until i watched Iron Man at a friends house, and became deeply in love with all the different Marvel films. But it was inevitable that Thor would develop into a wise King, that Asgard needed. The thing that makes it different for me though than any other similar plot, is that the character progression was done slowly, gradually and well. A lot of people rush it or just make it really stupid, and completely unbelievable but due to the good writing and fantastic acting on Chris's part, you could actually see the turning point where Thor has drastically changed. I also to have to second you there, i am very much a Loki/Tom girl. Loki is a brilliant character, with lots of depth and Tom is just an absolute sweetheart. Yes, it does seem the 'Bad Guys' do have more fun, because they're not restricted by morality, therefore can do whatever they want, without feeling bad or second questioning it.
It was, it really was. I think i may have cried during it. Loki always hated that Thor was everyone's favourite, but he seemed to forget that he was Thor's favourite. It's just a really beautiful and heartbreaking scene. Yes, Tricksters are rather tricky aren't they? I suppose it's they're nature. I can't wait to see Loki and Thor's dynamic in the new movie though. I small part of me hopes that Thor will be able to save Loki, and their friendship though the rest of me is thinking that i've never come across a writer kind enough to do that. ^.^
Thank you very much for your comment, by the way. It gave me a lot to think about, and it was nice to hear someone else's views on the whole topic.

Yeah. After seeing Dark Knight once, and Heath Ledger's performance as a Joker that was more felonious than funny (He made me duck and cover behind the pillows more often than he made me cover my mouth with laughter, while still saying, "You're awful!" Not to mention Two-Face made me grimace, not just with fear but also with pity, and not the good kind of pity. It left a bad taste in my mouth all-in-all.), I was dead to the superhero genre for at least 3 years. Avengers was a massive wake-up call, and since I wanted a little background on the villain, and I had been curious about Loki for a while, I decided to watch Thor before hand. It's a decision I don't regret, though I still think Thor is a meat-head, (well-done) character-development regardless (I'm just not one for blond beef-cake types, y'know?).
This gets me curious about the Captain America movie, especially with Winter Soldier coming out in 2014. I was watching WatchMojo.com's overview of the guy who'll be the main antagonist for it, The Winter Soldier, who was Steve's former sidekick/comrade, Bucky; as I was watching his back story, I couldn't help but think, "Maybe the guys at Pixar got inspired by this guy when making Syndrome's character. Even their names are similar. Bucky and Buddy."
I think that with "Dark World"... well, I believe Loki is fairly self-sufficient and self-hating too. I think that it won't be so much Thor saving Loki so much as Thor helping Loki save himself. Sure, he'll eventually bring about the end of the world (i.e. Ragnarok), but even the god of all tricksters deserves understanding and redemption. I think the root of it is the self-hatred spiral that started when his whole world was shattered by learning his true parentage. Adopted brother of the prince or not, he deserved to know about what he was and who he might've been had his parents been kinder or ready to raise him. Or at least, that's what I believe.
