You know what I never realized until you said "fruity/fishy blend" that it kind of looks like shrimp! LMAO I was just trying to make the yogurt look interesting but I guess it turned out to match the sushi! haha

I have a question I want to make a bento for school , but is it okay if the rice and everything what was warm gets cold? If I make it the night before than it will get cold for sure but is that okay?

Yes, the main point of bento is that your food is easy to transport, contains food that can be eaten at room temperature, uses foods that won't spoil easily and doesn't necessarily need to be heated. You definately want your hot/warm foods to cool all the way down to room temperature before putting the lid on top of them. reason for this so that the condensation from the steam coming off the food won't stick to the lid and ultimately spoil the rest of your food. Rice can definately be eaten at room temperature so long as it is cooled down completely. I have eaten rice since i was a child and it definately won't harm you. But keep in mind, cooked rice will only last one day OUTSIDE the fridge. So if you cook rice today but don't plan to eat it until tomorrow... place it in the fridgerator in a sealed container or bento box. If you make it the night before and let it cool down and put it in the fridge you'll be fine.

Smart. I'm not confident to work with raw fish yet, I can't find any unfrozen in the area and you have to be trained to look for parasites....scary huh?

Corselia In reply to TheSpyderDuster [2008-02-23 10:23:12 +0000 UTC]
lol. well... its the same in japan, the sushi chefs must be trained on how to cut and prepare the sushi to avoid any nastiness from the fish. i don't really think it scarry... more like safe cuz i wouldn't want to eat sushi that might end up poisoning me, give me parasites or any other bad crap. well you can make sushi that doesn't have fish in it. try tamago, cucumber, carrots, canned tuna/salmon (cook it with something for better flavor or use tuna/mayo, crab meat (either frozen or canned), or avacado? doesn't have to be real fish anyway and you can buy seaweed in the oriental isles or order it online.

My little girl has just entered a new charter school and has no new friends yet. I saw your Bento box lunches and attempted to make one and packed it for her on Friday. She was so excited and she found that at lunch time she made many new friends who came over to see her lunch.
Thank you.
I think yours are wonderful and I am really interested in Bento now!

Oh wow! thats so cute! XD i had started taking pictures of bento just for fun. I never thought by taking bento pictures that i could help a little girl make some new friends! That just really made my day! Alot of people think bento lunches are hard to make but its not at all, all you need to do is just use a little imagination and use whatever you have on hand. you don't even need a traditional box. I am glad you decided to make one after seeing mine! Your attempt to make bento and the fact that it helped your little girl make some new friends makes my dad twice as good! Your welcome and Thank you, too! hehe.
I hope to see some of your bento creations one day!
