I can't wait to see how this turns out. The open mouth is a really nice touch.

That was actually an unplanned mod I came up with after debuting the helm at a renaissance fair a couple weeks ago. Walking around on uneven pasture ground viewing through a jagged 3/4" slit 6" in front of your eyes really is as hard as you'd think. Ornstein would really look silly falling on his face.
Luckily I think it not only worked out great, it makes sense because many helms have a visor open position, and a closeup look at Ornstein's helm from in-game screen grabs looks like that section certainly could be a separate movable or removable piece.
So snap open to 3" visor for fast travel and stairway navigation, then snap closed for battle or photo ops. Β Β

The plume shown is only temporary, the final will be much more elaborate.
The helm is constructed from Sintra, with Magic Sculpt for the designs and embossed areas. The teeth are made from tinted Lexan.Β
The bottom jaw / front neck piece is magnetically attached, and it can be attached about 2" lower to another set of magnets as a 'visor open' position, which makes it a lot easier to walk around, navigate stairs etc., or it can be removed to eat/drink etc.Β
It also has built-in cooling; I mounted a 30mm fan inside the roof of the mouth pointing at my face, it will run for 12+ hours from a USB battery stick that mounts in the back of the helm.
After magic sculpt I coated it with laminating epoxy resin for addition strength and impact protection as the Magic Sculpt is fairly brittle when thin.Β
The paint is Krylon 18 Karat Gold Plate, and it's weathered with Rub 'n' Buff,Β primarilyΒ European Gold, with a little bit of Spanish Copper in the darker spots, and Ruby in the eyes. Β
