Description
The Marsh was created at the end of the ice age, by the Greenbay lobe of glacier carving out the Rock River Valley. Known as the Great Hunting Grounds, this is part of the ancestral home of the Ho-Chunk Nation, and the site of hundreds of effigy mounds built during the Late Woodland Period. There was an abundance of birds, fish, and game, and it was seemingly inevitable that European settlers would eventually arrive. The Ho Chunk were "relocated" to Nebraska, after a series of horrendous "relocations" to Iowa, Minnesota and South Dakota.
The town of Horicon was founded.
