Description I think that this is self explanatory except for the random forest background. It was just too empty.
She is standing in front of a mirror and sees no reflection (not because she's a vampire -_-) because she has no freaking identity.

I. Slaved. Over. This. It's over 3000x3000 px. 300dpi. At one point it exceeded 1 GB but then I merged the layers 'cos I was scared that my computer would crash.

This is a response to many pieces that I've recently seen around dA, even before the Women's Awareness Week. Also, a major thank you to *Lindowyn for inspiring me to continue this one with her new submissions. I started it and never got the courage to finish it because I was afraid that the manip wouldn't turn out deep enough.

I'm mostly satisfied with the results. The dress is created out of about 30 layers of overlapping fabric. The narrowed waist is also created using a bunch of layers. Model is created by combining 2 pics. The manip is not perfect but it should speak out loud enough... I wanted to exaggerate the body proportions but not so much that it wouldn't look "surreal."

Her dress is both pretty and "corrupt." It weights her down.

Anyway, I don't feel like explaining anymore because it would beat the meaning of a conceptual piece, right?

Many, many, many thanks to *mizzd-stock who took the time and did a request package for me back when I first had the idea.

Stock credits:

(hehe, long reading...)

I give *Manipulators permission to post this in the club gallery.

The forest could represent her wilderness, the place she has ended up when she is at her lowest.

You've done a really nice job! That dress is beautiful, and it's a good concept.

Mhm, yes, that would work. Like what forests represent in literature and fairy tales

This is incredible, hun!! I love the way you have done this piece - it's one of the better ones I have seen from you. I think that you have used the many different stocks here wonderfully, something I find you getting better and better at. The way you have added the textures to her dress and the tress and wood floors below - everything just works so well. Very pretty.

I do have one critique though - I was wondering about the skies in the mirror. To me this piece is about how women are obsessed with their looks in today's society (American at least), so I was thinking there should be perhaps another model in the mirror that shows her what she wants to be and she's trying hard to achieve that through the corset and the dress. Not sure if that's the statement you want to make because... well... we don't want women to have to do that. We want them to feel pretty and believe in their looks. But do you think you could maybe make a series out of it and the next one show that they are beautiful, no matter what? I know that it might be easier said than done, but if you really want to continue with it I think you could definitely do something like that.

Let me know if you like that idea or not.. I would definitely understand if you don't.

i like the idea i actually didn't think of that! what i meant with the clouds is that it's "blurry" and "cloudy," as in her reflection/identity is lost. this is because in society, women want to achieve the same exact skinny, curvy look. the concept might be a bit vague, sadly.
thank you for the critique i'm glad to hear that i'm improving! and sorry for replying late, you know, 'cos of the hiatus/etc.

Tevekinhell [2007-03-28 09:29:23 +0000 UTC]

Wow! I mean, seriously this is one the of the best made pieces I've seen in ages! The detail is fantastic, the dress looks wonderful and think you made the body proportions perfectly! You've blended the whole thing together beautifully! The overall effect kind of leaves me thinking that the woman is looking into her future, seeing how she wants to reach for the sky, but the way you've done her, especially with the body makes me think she'll never actually get there.. Anyway, I'm rambling!

You got it over a gig?!? The most I ever reached with one was a bit over 100mb, and that nearly crashed my computer at a few points!

yeah, it was over a gig it was because i had too many layers luckily my computer has a decent ram of 512 MB

its beautiful... she looks like shes pulling the corset tighter ... as if to say society wants her to be skinnier so shes creating a society based person - giving her no ID for herself. the background to me - gives her the feeling of being lost ... sry if u didnt want a critque lol just how it makes me feel. Its beautiful!!
