This is just amazing Trevor! Really glad to see you trying your talent on another fractal program. I now love UF but it does get very frustrating at times. I tend to go in with an attitude of exploration with just some rough ideas...see what I get - hey much like Apo! With UF, when I get "good one" I just go into a trance, rendering and saving 100's of captures (is the way I see them). Then comes the hard job of picking the "best ones". I might be posting something soon...tons of renders just sitting there and for me somewhat unusual because they're spirals!

Hey thanks so much for the info on burning. Had it all figured out when I realised that my wonderful geek, Ken, rushed away without finishing the job and neither my CD or my new DVD drive was recognising that there was a disc in them! Another friend was over Thursday (another geek! ) and fixed everything but now I'm having trouble with figuring out how to size everything to fit the CD without ending up with half of it not fitting. Seems to me there was a program I tried once that just opened up the drive when it ran out of space and told you to put in another DVD...maybe that was Windows...now I'm waiting either for patience or for my friend to come over again...and hope for no bad crashes...but since I got the new RAM and CPU (feeble though they are) it's made a huge difference...

Aww thanks LZ! I've been playing around with UF a bit more lately, or at least posting the stuff I'm coming up with hahaha...

I'm glad that it's helping ya! Backing up files can be tricky. What are you planning on backing up? Fractals and such?

Uf is endless just like Apo!

I wanted to back up my entire computer but I don't know how that's going to have to be divided up...have to wait for my new free (will work for food!) geek to come over tomorrow! C is filling up way too rapidly and there's hardly any space left on my E drive either so I will have to start getting some pics off that I don't use regularly. This is how I managed to lose 1000's of texture and enviroment maps for my Flaming Pear Plug ins...

This is absolutly amazing. There are no comments I could write that could do this piece justice. The colours and lighint of it are brilliant. The amount of fine details within the piece are crazy. So much depth. The details seem to be undending, details within details with in deatails within....

My god honey...this is brilliant...

The oversaturated lighting makes this one for me. It feels like something real that's been photographed, and then the detail comes into view.

Thanks bud! Yeah, I was trying something different with this one completely. The learning curve for UF is just phenominal, I've scrapped like 15-20 fracs over the last month, and even had to come back to this one a few times hahaha! I am really glad you enjoyed this one, and thanks for the fav!

Same, its wayyy dif to Apo, I dont know if I like UF...its all to calculated maybe, i dunno, Id love to use it and NOT get flowers!!!

CryptFiend In reply to o-LJ-o [2006-03-03 02:57:45 +0000 UTC]

hahaha! The big thing is downloading the public formulas. Then trying out each formula combination possible, do some zooming in and out of each one until you get something you like. It's fun though... tweaking gradients and masking is the toughest part but there's lots of tutorials on the UF group page to sift through. But I hear you, I hated UF the first time i tried the trial. I just recently got it last month and am giving it a fair try. It's worth it but I've gotten discouraged quite a few times!

Look for the Sierpinksy formulas! There are lots of non-flowery ones there and elsewhere - I'm dead sick of flowers (and spirals too sometimes!) too!

Hey Trevor, sorry to horn in on your page here! Just my two cents...

Overall, I'd have to say UF because once you get into it, you can get into a trance and take pictures really fast for days plus you can just line the renders up and keep on playing!

I do like Apo and find it a continuous challege. Chaos - I have no clue!?!?! How about you? I've tried lots of others that relied on forms too much for me or too complex to learn etc...

Trying to break out of that UF rut today, I had to have made like 10 pieces this past month that I won't dare post. I was even coaxed into this one I kinda liked it though, makes a good bg Thanks so much Kim! I really appreciate the support! I'll tweak out some more tomorrow and do some more UF posts this week hehehe... I'm not gonna give up so easily anymore hahaha!

hehe Its ok, we all go through it. If you only knew how much junk I make in comparisson to what I post and how many things Ive given up on and trashed when maybe if I held onto it and approached it later I could make it work when it had promise, you would so laugh at me lol.

You always have my support hon. If you want to send a note and just rant and cry thats always welcome too. If I can ever help in any way do let me know. I look forward to seeing more of what you do, be it fractals or anything else!

Awwwwwwww.... you are such an amazing friend! I know how you feel, I've trashed and reworked so much stuff that it's crazy over the last month. I'm so happy that we ran into each other on here... Same goes with you, if you ever have any problems, need to talk etc, just send me a note.

I'm also a turbo computer geek, be it anything from windows/linux networking, computer hardware etc... pop me a question and you'll have my free helpdesk support I do everything from build systems to huge networks for companies etc, I have recently done a computer secuirty/hacking seminar at a local high priced private school - computer system engineering course with the instructor/students/coursecoordinator present. My last position was as an IT Admin for a decent sized company, and before that was a techy/network guy in charge of 5 schools, teaching teachers etc and looking after all the schools computers and servers. If you run into any issues run it by me before paying anybody.

I feel that everyone crosses your path in life for a reason. So its really no coincidence we ran into each other here. Im just glad that we did too

I know NADA about computers other than how to turn it on to do what I need it to do lol. My husband is a bit more profficient. He built this machine I work on and the one he has though I sometimes wonder if we wouldnt be better off if he didnt rofl. Things work well for a time but then its like UGH haha. I want a new system sooo badly. Kris is more of an AMD guy and they have that new M2 I think its called out on the horizon. Were thinking of maybe waiting until it comes out and then building me a new set rather than just upgrading. He then will inherit this one I use and Tyler will get the old decrepit one Kris uses lol. That would all work out fantastically but we have no real idea if its worth waiting for the new technology or not...

CryptFiend In reply to MooseCall [2006-03-10 02:37:10 +0000 UTC]

Aww for sure! I believe the same thing.

I'm an AMD guy too, I find they perform much faster than Intel for games and such, they swap back and forth a lot, but AMD has a great lead on them the last few years. I would recommend holding out as much as you can until more software and stuff is available and utilizes the multi core processors and 64 bit extensions, it may sound like gibberish but you'll know what I mean down the road. I'm holding off until the "Cell" processors hit the PC mainstream. It's the new processor that was designed by IBM, Sony (and Samsung I believe?) for the new Playstation 3 that has 9 cores (kinda like 9 seperate processors on one chip) It's going to blow away everything on the market and is gonna be cheap to produce, I expect that they'll be mainstream by late 2007 - early 2008 for PC. Could be sooner but who knows! Anything over a 2.4ghz P4 or AMD 2500+ will do just fine until then. Don't bother spending too much is what I always say, once the 64 bit - multi threaded software hits you'll see huge performance gains, until then you won't notice too much of a difference. Ultra Fractal is hopefully gonna come out with a 64 bit version at some point which would work a bazillion times faster than it does now. That's when I'll upgrade

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

MooseCall In reply to CryptFiend [2006-03-13 01:06:35 +0000 UTC]

Yeah I think we are going to wait til the M2 comes out. I cant justify spending a grand or so for the amd 64 processor if it is soon to become obselette with the release of the M2. (Im actually learning quite a bit researching stuff and asking Kris questions along the way lol. So I do know now what you mean by 'cores' hehe I wouldnt have a month ago though rofl) So I think we will wait for that and then get a top of the line system with the new components. I think. lol. I know Im getting tired of my current sysetem. I told Kris the things that I want/need for my computer to do and just to make it happen rofl. Im more curious now though in the process than I have been in the past and want to help make some decisions about it or at least understand it all better. Its amazing how fast the computer industry changes though. So I do tend to try and stick with the less is more mind thought, though its time now to re build a whole new, strong, good unit and pay a little bit for it rather than our continual mini upgrade here and there tweaks. We can go back to that later but its reaching a point where I just need a whole new system. Money money money though. So many other things we need too than just puters haha. We need to win the lotto!
