Description The newest page of the "Yusei-Short-Stories". Haven't been uploading any of these for quite some time, and this is my favourite page so far.
It was my way to cope with the fact that I have been using the name of this lightblue-haired Bishie that has been invading my gallery for such a long time now totally wrong from the start.
I always thought that Kiryu is his given name... and then I saw on ~AtemuAtemisu 's animexx page that it isn't. It isn't Kiryu Kyosuke, but Kyosuke Kiryu. O__O I was shocked. Then outraged. I fully blame Yusei Fudo for always calling his allegedly "best friend" always by his surname even when he was dying in his arms. Which is kinda what I made this joke page here about. Kyosuke only wishes to be called by his given name by Yusei finally, who just refuses him while holding him in arms.

....how many fans of Kyosuke Kiryu know the truth? And how many people also know that in the name Jonouchi Katsuya (also known as Joey Wheeler in the dub), the Katsuya is the given name and not the "Jonouchi"??
...I have been wondering what to do now. Change all and everything I have done so far just because of this name twister? NAAH. I refuse.
Then again, why do I wonder that Kiryu is his surname? EVERY anime boy that is pale and has grey, white, lightblue hair is named "KIRYU" for some mysterious reason. Just take Zero Kiryu from Vampire Knight. Or Joshua Kiryu from TWEWY. Or now Kyosuke Kiryu from YuGiOh 5Ds.

...I will keep the name twister forever. Because I am just lazy as that and because I have gotten used to it already... and maybe because it makes this character in my gallery at least a little bit more "mine".

Lol Yusei is shocked! But really you just noticed it!? C'mon... Fudo Yusei? Izayoi Aki? Juki Judai? Muto Yugi? You didn't saw the pattern? Only exceptions are English like names... Jack Atlas, Crow Hogan... but that's besides the point... We all know Kiryu as Kiryu... they never bothered on swap names, Kiryu has more power than Kyosuke! So just keep it that way

OH come on, Striker, that is mean now! (joke) I mean, it is pretty obvious that there is a pattern now that you say it, but I still will blame Fudo Yusei for calling his "best friend" by his surname even if he f*cking dies! I mean, come on! THAT was the ultimate deception, otherwise, I might have seen through this pattern easily, just as you pointed out!

O_O ...I never would've guessed... I always thought Kiryu was his first name. Kyosuke can't be that cause it doesn't sound right. And as for Yusei, Yusei is his first name, though how come when someone says his name it's "Fudo Yusei"? Egad I think I'm losing my mind here.

Also, Crow Hogan and Jack Atlas. Though, those would be typical American names, if you put an "e" at the end of "Crow", then it becomes a last name. But yeah. This whole page here really depicts how Kalin, heh, had noticed why Yusei has been calling him by his last name rather than Kyosuke, but like I said. It would've sounded weird to us. And that this really shows how the two actually hated each other, especially Kalin hating Yusei. That's not the reason he hated him anyway, hehe... Good job on this.

well, I also thought that "Kiryu" was his given name, until I was told that the prefix "-suke" (as well as -maru) in japanese names is always used in male given names, and this always as such indicating the name that has it to be the given name. Kyosuke was never encountered as a surname by the friend who explained me this, and also she said that Yusei calls Jack and Crow by their given names for more often is because they have no japanese names, and because japanese people tend to rather use the given names of not-japanese names while having the tendency to use the surname of the japanese ones. On the official cardgame tournament in the show, they also said "Fudo Yusei" or "izayoi Aki". It is a thing of respect to call someone by their surname apparently.
Kyosuke is also a pretty often used and widely spread given name.

No, if people from foreign countries are present, they know that we are used to it the other way around. With names like Jack Atlas or Crow Hogan, for example, japanese people would calle them by their given names.

Let me just say that the art here is great.

I always thought Kyosuke was his family name BECAUSE in the Japanese version, they often refer to Yusei as "Fudo Yusei" and I am aware of the tradition of putting your last name first.

I am not going to change it either, because I am also too lazy to go back and do it.

Then again, like you said, they always called Katsuya by his surname "Jonouchi", and for that matter, they refered to Hiroto as "Honda" (Tristan, for those who only watch the dub).

And most of the time, we refer to Seto Kaiba by his surname, too. So, it's more common than we think. But, the fact Jack and Crow are called by there given names is an interesting point.

And I notice almost all of the girls, if NOT all, are called by their given names. Just something I noticed.

You probably don't need to change it for your fanfiction at least, since it plays in an AU anyway, and thus, doesn't make an immediate change that much necessary.

Now that I think about it, Yusei actually always called Aki "Izayoi" before episode 41, where he suddenly switched to her given name... hm...

I also haven't known that! I was so shocked that morning. O____O I first had to drink something to calm down (about something so trivial, actually ) so I have made myself some coffee... and ran to and fro to the living room where my brother sits usually, complaining about it for hundred times, if not more.

Wow, serious impact... Very, very unusual.
I call him Joey too, so it really has no effect on me. This is why Fire Emblem is so good, very few characters have surnames (eg Ike, Eliwood), and you know which name is the person's surname because it's in the proper order (eg Jill Fizzart, Brendan Reed)

Ich sage mal, jeder denkt, dass Kiryu sein Vorname wΓ€re, was aber total Yuseis schuld ist, weil er ihn IMMER beim Nachnamen genannt hat, und nicht einmal bei seinem Vornamen, selbst nicht bei den emotionalsten Momenten. XD

Well, there were times in which people said Yusei's name as "Fudo Yusei", for example in the card game tournament.
...I still don't get why Yusei calls his best friend ALWAYS by his surname even when he dies. I mean, being polite is one thing, but it is another when you see this friend die or being taken away by the police. I at least would assume that I would call my best friend by his given name in situations as these. O_o Maybe I am just weird like that.
I mean, if Bowe would call me "Rogowska" while kissing me, that would be just as weird, wouldn't you say?

Personally, i always thnk of Enforcer Kiryu as Kalin Kessler and the Crashtown Kiryu as... well, Kyosuke.

...whenever I hear the name Kalin, I have to either think of K.K.'s twin brother from an RPG... or I have to think of that one character from Code Geass who looks like Aki and has a similiar name to Kalin.
