James Woods is best pony.
Great comic, you always do a good job lampooning & homaging the series, and giving more insight into stuff some of us fans don't think about much.

Adorable comic, really, but as the total nerd I am, I feel the need to point this out to people; HADES. ISN'T. THE DEVIL.
He maybe evil in the disney movie (which is a VERY inaccurate retelling of the origional Hercules legend) but in actual greek mythology he was just about as evil as the rest of the gods.
The only reason people think he's evil is because he's god of the underworld, so people assoiate him with Satan and Hell and all that.
Sorry about that, just felt the need to rant about this

Tartarus is connected to the greek/roman underworld, which mean its the domain of hades, and as a fellow mythology not i just want to say, let it go.

Hmmm nope. Sorry, thats not what I learned. Tartarus was a whole different place that actually excisted BENEATH the Underworld, and had nothing to do with Hades. At least thats what my teacher told me.

Did she tell you that In Greek mythology, Tartarus is both a deity and a place in the underworld. That in ancient Orphic sources and in the mystery schools, Tartarus is also the unbounded first-existing entity from which the Light and the cosmos are born.
though i will admit that the famous greek poet Hesiod asserts that a bronze anvil falling from heaven would fall 9 days before it reached the Earth. The anvil would take nine more days to fall from Earth to Tartarus. In The Iliad (c. 700), Zeus asserts that Tartarus is "as far beneath Hades as heaven is high above the earth." It is one of the primordial objects that sprung from Chaos, along with Gaia (Earth) and Eros (desire).

I have to say, I'm enjoying this coversation quite alot. I never found anyone on here that was as big a greek mythology nerd as me. But I must admit my teacher didn't talk much about Tartarus, so I probably don't know as much about it as you do.
My point was more about Hades not being evil, so he shouldn't be associated with evil entities like Satan just because he ruled the underworld.

I see your point, maybe I shouldn't get worked up over this cute little pony cartoon, but I never intended to show like such a "stickler."
Hopfully I'm not always this touchy for details.

All that was really confirmed is that Tartarus is a prison guarded by Cerberus in the MLP:FIM universe. It might not even be afterlife-related, though it would be interesting if it was. My new headcanon is that all the nastiest G1 villains are locked in there.
As for why Discord's statue wasn't locked away there, well, you saw how he was able to escape. Chances are, it would probably be easier for him to escape in the negative environment of a prison. And it makes sense that Celestia and Luna would keep his statue somewhere they could always see it.

LOL! Never thought of that. I was pretty stunned when Twilight said she knew where the gates of Tartarus was. Actually she said it as it was common knowledge.
