I'm pretty sure that dark skin and ground/rock (what have you) are associated because when most people think of dirt or the ground they think of dark brown soil. So that may be why.

haha hookers was a joke, the game is for kids so nah. Iunno about the kid from captain planet, but I'm pretty sure Brock is just a darker-skinned Japanese person. Pokemon was never very diverse like that.
