Description
Myself as Terra Branford from Final Fantasy VI. Photo taken by Ollie [Orobouros.net] at T-Mode 2007. I feel that this costume is probably one of my most inspired creations, and I am still incredibly relieved that all of the clashing ideas in my head somehow coelesced into a coherent design! I based this largely off of the CG renderings from the PSX version of the game, as well as rarer Amano illustrations. I even went so far as to incorporate elements from various fanarts that I enjoyed! This was a very fun, if stressful and time-consuming, project, and I'm still nowhere near finished. DDX Maybe one day I'll get back to working on poor Terra! The entire costume [including the custom-dyed wig and armor] was constructed by me.Please no critiques/criticism. I'd like to keep this gallery happy! :3

It's a very spectacular piece of work, the green/blonde hair is a nice touch so that it could go either way. Very good.

wow! this is utterly beautiful! Did you ever get back to it? Was this all hand stitched? What did you make the shoulder armor from? I love the detailing in the hair with the beads. Is that really a wig?!
I am aw struck!

Hi, thanks for your lovely comment and all of the questions! <3 No, I've never gotten back to it, but I plan to at some point soon. The beading is hand-stitched, but the shell of the dress was done on a machine. The shoulder armor is actually made from craft foam, molded into shape with heat, and backed with fabric. And yes, that's a wig! <3

Mind if I use your idea? I have a friend doing a Celes and she wants to do the shoulder armor. I wasn't sure how, but with your idea I'm sure I could find what we need at my store (I work at a craft store). About how long did it take to do it?
Those are beads?! Amazing! you have alot of patients.
And that wig is awesome! I really though you dyed your hair. how did you get is so close to your normal hair line? did you (forgive me for asking) shave your head? really, it looks like your hair O.o!!

If that's the case, I can link you to a tutorial that was of great help to me: [link] It took surprisingly little time to finish the armor; I'd say two evenings, tops. The most time-consuming aspect is letting the glue dry between coats.
You're not very familiar with how wigs work, are you? Hahahah. You use something called a wig cap to pull all of your hair back from your hair line, then fit the wig snugly on top of it. Higher quality wigs will look more natural and blend into the scalp.
[Sorry if any of this doesn't make sense; I'm all sorts of drugged up from a sinus infection at the moment. ^__^;]

Thank you so much! I think this will be most helpful!
As for wigs, I know nothing about them. I try to cosplay people I don't need a wig for. I have a mass of hair, three feet. The last person I cosplayed was Aerith, in which I am told I don't need to do much x.x.
you make perfect since. ^.^Go get some rest.

Oh, I see. I also avoided wigs for a good long while [and had similar hair to yours, from the sounds of it XD], but then I realized that they're so much easier to deal with. Back in the day when I cosplayed Aerith, it was as simple as slipping on a wig and the costume, rather than putting hours and hours into styling my hair. Made it possible for me to wear more costumes in a day and do faster costume changes. ^__^ And now I'm totally addicted to them, LOL.

I might get into wigs next year, but not yet. This one don't requare it for me, but next year will be Setzer, I think. ^.^;; No way I am bleaching my hair.
My friend ~shadowstock wanted to thank you for the help you are giving us on cosplaying. It has been huge! She is rather shy and doesn't like to ask. It really has helped us and got out thoughts together for our own creations.

Amano, since I am a die hard FFVI fan ^.^!! I have to learn how to dye really well. I have roles of this nice fabric, but it's all black. I know how to take color out, but I don't know if this fabric can be dyed. I guess if I wait for Setzer then I won't have dye much.
I am very glad you can too! It's going to make these costumes so much easier! Mind if I ask another question? My friend is doing that armor, right? Well, for Celes. How do you keep them on your shoulders once they are made? It will have a cape with it.

Oh dear, it's black? Did you double-check to make sure it'll take bleach? Only natural fabrics that were dyed after they were woven will bleach out, and even then, it's really hard to get them more than a few shades lighter [maybe a medium grey]. Synthetics are practically impossible to bleach. And the other thing to consider is that once fabric is doused in bleach or another chemical colour remover, it is EXTREMELY difficult to get it to take colour again. I have unfortunately experienced this first-hand, since the fabric for my first Rinoa duster was originally cream-coloured. I first used bleach to get it a bit lighter, then tried dying it blue, but the dye just wouldn't take and ended up a splotchy mix of white, light blue, and dark blue. It was really upsetting, especially since I dyed it AFTER I had sewn up the entire duster. ;__; I hate to be the bearer of potential bad news, but it might be good for you to try testing a scrap of fabric before you start the costume. Hopefully it will work out for you, but the odds are probably against you in this situation.
About the armor, I'm honestly not sure, since Terra's design included straps that would hold the armor on. I don't recall if Celes had anything similar on her. One suggestion I'd have [if there are no straps on her design] is perhaps to string some beads on a piece of elastic, attach it to the armor, and run the elastic from the armor to the body of the costume. You could do this with several strands of beads and I think it would actually be quite pretty and Amano-ish! ^__^
I can't wait to see your finished costumes. It sounds like you're putting plenty of thought into these, so I know they'll end up gorgeous!

ah! You a watching me! ^.^! I hope you enjoy what you see. I don't put many pictures up, but I do put a few watercolors up (I hope to sell at a con...)
Thanks for the warning in advance about the fabric. I will test it. As I was looking at the black I noticed I really don't have as much as I had hoped. I might just save it for Setzer's coat next year (a lining or something). His coat is going to be the death of me x.x!
I gave your suggestion to my friend. She will chew on it for a while. She is hoping to get to a craft store this weekend to get started on stuff. ^.^;; I work at a craft store. But I have to wait for the good sales.
In my mind it is really pretty, but this will be the first time, other then a very slapped together Aerith, I have ever done this, so don't expect too much ^.^;; My biggest concern is my art. I want to sell at the con, so I need to buckle down and get these kittens done x.x! and... any other fan art that can be done between now and then.
sorry for the late reply. x.x sometimes I have to wait for my day off to reply to anything on DA...

I don't quite appreciate the criticism, as I specifically requested that there be no critiquing. My costume is a mixture of the sprite, PSX, and Amano designs. Did you know that only the original sprite has green hair? That's right, two of the three feature Terra with blonde hair. This is why I chose a blonde wig and opted to colour in just a few strands of green. There IS a method to my madness. ^_~ But thank you for the comment; I truly appreciate your interest!

This is such a gorgeous outfit! I read your journal entry about cosplay FAQs, and I think that what a few people say about arrogance and elitism shouldn't stop you from doing big shoots and going into detail describing your costume. People who are serious cosplayers and not jerkfaces want to know how you did various parts of your costume so that they can be inspired to use different techniques and approaches. Also, you are beautiful and far from fat, so don't let any of those hateful comments get you down for a second! Your costumes are well worth the hard work you seem to put into them! They're amazing! ^_^
