I find it perplexing that people hate them so much, I bet they feel their personal space is being violated or something.

Of the 3,000 cockroach species, less than 30 are even capable of infesting a human home. The rest are completely non-pest, outdoor insects that eat rotten wood, dead leaves or other insects and have no interest in your food or home.
However, even the "pest" roaches are unfairly vilified. They don't really carry disease (the board of health says they do, but those of us who directly study insects know better) and the reason they do so well in our buildings is that they're symbiotic. They would have lived with our ancestors and been *helpful* by devouring scraps of food and waste before they grew dangerous molds or diseases.
I love all species of cockroach, pest or otherwise, I think they're much prettier than butterflies or ladybugs

You're just being contrary for the hell of it. There's no real reason you should want all of them to die when barely any of them would ever bother you. They're like butterflies, mantids, beetles or any other harmless outdoor animals, a few pests don't make a whole group "nasty."

You would never even know that a lot of them are in the roach family, they just look like ladybugs or fireflies or anything else. It's a huge group, and entirely beneficial.
