I felt sorry for her too. I never saw her as this uber-sadist she's portrayed as in a lot of fanfic. She's just very very good at being Homeworld's blunt instrument, and is driven by a way of thinking that doesn't do her any good.
Hopefully, dormant in her bubble, she'll know more peace than she ever had while free.
And the questions! I'd been totally sold on the idea that Rose Quartz was Pink Diamond. Bismuth describing her as being an ordinary Quartz soldier in the beginning didn't deter me: we got reminded hard in that episode that Rose kept secrets, and if I used to be Pink Diamond, well, I probably don't tell that to an unhinged, hot-headed loose cannon whose main goal in life is to round up and shatter every last member of the aristocracy.
Then we heard the six fateful words that may be Jasper's last.
(Which also leaves as many questions about Rose Quartz. Everything responsible for the Pink Diamond theory is still there - let's face it, there is not one thing about her that says she was made to be a soldier like Jasper.)
