I've been using it for about 5 months now and you can see by the stuff I'm uploading, I'm getting better and better at modeling stuff. Yes I know I don't make the most sophisticated models but hey, I do all this for fun.
I do recommend using this program for stuff like this though. Basically the way I'm learning is by tutorials. I also like to browse DA for stuff and see if I can make them, I find it's a way of getting to know how to use certain tools and ways of making stuff.
I have some good websites that are really helpful with C4D, so if you would like them just ask. Plus if you do get C4D, I have no problem with helping you out.

I will defiantly look into this further. From what you have done so far, it looks pretty fun to use. I personally have been using blender for some modeling, but I like to look at the other alternatives for a change.
Do you have to pay for C4D or is there a free version that I could try out?

Yeah you have to pay for it. I do think there is a Trial Version but I may be wrong. Maxon Cinema 4D R12 is a Professional Program and because of that it is quite expensive. You can view the prices here [link]
