Description Heres an entry I did for one of Penny Arcades: Artist Corner contests.

You had to design a comic book cover, and for some reason Halo/Halo was the first idea that I had.

It's self- expression. That's the beauty of America: Freedom of Speech. His right to draw Jesus fighting Master Chief is protected by law, so take these comments and keep them QUIETLY to yourself please. As a fellow artist, i have to take Cybermonkeytron3000's side.

Both of you are idiots. You can use characters from *other* novels, why not the Bible vol. 2?

I believe you mean the "New Testament". The Bible is not a novel. It is God's Word and Jesus is not a character. He is the Son of God. The one who came to die on the cross for all sinners. Even the ingorant ones like yourself, who do not know the truth. I can only pray that you will know the truth about God's salvation.

Funny, I'm fairly certain I mean the Bible vol.2. Or the sequel or whatever you call it in noveling terms. Jesus is a character insofar as he may well have existed but is romanticised and spiced up in the novel. You have no good reason to think that the Bible was written by God, as you have no good reason to think that God exists at all beyond the fact that you really, really think he does. Jesus died on the cross because the Romans stuck him up there - same as Spartacus and all the thousands of other slaves that were crucified.
I find it beautifully ironic that you misspelled ignorant.
Also, last I checked, the best way to determine truth is not to take a 2000-year-old idea and insist on its validity in the face of opposing reason. If it is, why not do it for all the other ideas they had then?
I'm afraid you would be better off doing almost anything other than hoping that those wiser and more sensible than you will degrade their intellects to your level. Go and read a nice book or something.

people like us? where do you get off thinking that just because we choose to believe in a higher being, that we are somehow "inferior" to you? I believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, and will not sit here and let you beat a fellow believer down. God is powerful and very real. Just because you can't seem to wrap your tiny little head around the fact that this is still a free country and people are still allowed to believe whatever they please, is no reason to be bashing somebody else's beliefs! You'll notice nowhere in my post do I belittle you for not believing in Christ, or even God in general! I'm not trying to "convert" you or whatever people want to call it... My point is that just because your viewpoint is different than somebody else's is no reason to put them down. We're all equal...

You have valid points, but one can argue and say: us "tiny- brained" athiests just see BEYOND a "higher being". Facts and reasoning cannot work on "believers", but my mother raised me to live life loving my neighbors and following common morals (just like Christianity). The difference between you and I is that one of us believes in one less of a God than the other.

not to mention...

>this is still a free country and people are still >allowed to believe whatever they please, is no >reason to be bashing somebody else's beliefs!

You are just simply wrong here. What we are required to have is tolerance. That means, you are allowed to do things in secular countries. We won't kill you. The law protects you as a human being.

This doesn't mean that those of us with sense must respect you - and you are asking me for respect. Until you think and behave in a respectful manner, you will never be respected.

You are worthy of respect, when you respect others. That's the bottom line. There is no other reason or way of gaining any respect.

Not to be confused with fear.

>God is powerful and very real

If I were to press you on that, your reason for thinking that would come down to "because I want him to be".

>You'll notice nowhere in my post do I belittle you for not believing in Christ, or even God in general!

Yes, and herein lies the specific difference between you and I. Your religion preaches forgiveness. This has a historic basis, because originally the Christians were persecuted by the Roman empire. So, nice to insist that everyone ought to forgive everyone else. Translated to this situation, you can be patronising and ignorant to me and you would like me to do the same for you.

But there is a fundamental misconception. I find your stance on humanity deeply offensive. Stephen Hawking once described us as "chemical scum" on the surface of the planet. And even that description is extremely degrading! One physical system, the human brain, can build accurate working models of other dissimilar systems: cats, quasars, matrices. Not just a superficial image but an explanatory model embodying the same mathematical relationships and causal structure. That's knowledge. And if that weren't amazing enough, the faithfulness of this model is continually increasing. That's the growth of knowledge. So this chemical scum is different.

Describing us, in a creative and dynamic sense, and in the sense of potential, as chemical scum is degrading. Inventing a primitive, paltry and puerile entity - let us call that entity "god" - and then SUBJECTING our minds to that, treating us as LESS GOOD; that is downright anti-human. Offensive to any good human being's sense of reason, of logic.

The beauty of humanity and of our brains, our minds, is that was can be *dynamic*. We can use reason and logic and innovation to develop and think about and learn new things. All the time. This process is an infinite one. Things can ALWAYS be better, more innovations can ALWAYS be made. The notion of an omniscient god is positively revolting in comparison. To know everything? Abhorrent! We will NEVER know everything. We can ALWAYS make new knowledge. And this is why we are a great species.

And finally, a last minute witticism: If god is omnipotent, can he make a stone he cannot lift?

>If I were to press you on that, your reason for thinking that would come down to "because I want him to be".
In response to this I say "A tree is not a tree because I want it to be. A tree is tree because it is." God exists and is Omnipotent regardless of what you or anyone wants or thinks.
>And finally, a last minute witticism: If god is omnipotent, can he make a stone he cannot lift?
God could do that, but wouldn't because to do that would be stupid, and God is not stupid.

Seien-24 In reply to Master-of-an-empire [2008-01-03 15:50:25 +0000 UTC]

We can see a tree - we can touch it and pick its bark off and kick it and make tables out of it. The only people that seem to get anything out of god at all, or even consider it tangible, are the people that are predisposed to.
Samuel Johnson was once talking to the Bishop Berkeley - who was apparently a skeptic, as he was attempting to prove the nonexistence of matter, and that everything in the universe is merely ideal (which is skepticism). Samuel Johnson's response was to kick a stone and announce "I refute it thus".
His witty refutation was, in fact, the demonstration of human interaction with matter, which happens constantly and very visibly. I would like to see a similar interaction between people and god (You won't be able to give me one, as it doesn't actually exist).

....Your stupidity appears to have veiled the point from you. You see, the thing that makes it witty is that, in fact, god couldn't possibly do that - nothing could do that - because it is a paradox. If he is omnipotent, he would have to be able to do anything, including make this stone. If he couldn't make it, he wouldn't be omnipotent because there would be something he couldn't do. However, having made this stone, he would then not be able to lift it, which would also make him cease to be omnipotent. The end result is, basically, that the statement can't satisfy all the requirements and whichever way you turn it, god isn't omnipotent.
