Description
So I decided to challenge myself by redrawing a picture that was way above the level of everything else I was drawing at the time, and that I still thought was pretty good. The before picture took me many many days and hours of work, and I was so proud of the final result- in my opinion it was the best thing I had ever drawn, and it was my favorite picture I had drawn for many months, maybe even a year. I was a bit scared to try drawing it again because I felt like I hadn't improved all that much in the past 2 and a half years. In the end, not only does the finished result show my areas of improvement, but it took much less time. I don't feel like the new version shows the very best of my abilities like I did with the old one, but I am proud of many parts of it. The anatomy is much better, and my lineart and shading are much more solid and less unsure. I still struggle with backgrounds, but I made an attempt to have some more depth. My only problem with the new version is that the antlers are disappearing into the light a little and I should have them colored a little more like the previous version. Actually, I do prefer the colors of the old one, but I think the newer version is much better as a whole. I think this was a really good experience for me and has shown me that I have improved a lot more than I felt.
Just goes to show that as long as you put time and effort into getting better, you will improve!
