I get that light-through-the-object thing sometimes as well. Though it's mostly through things like hands and such, and usually happened due to bloom sometimes. Just a matter of placement deals with it I guess.
And the irony I feel is this image comes up as soon as I made the realization through the readings as well. The story really knows how to grab people.
