Viral's a Cat/Shark type beastman, and Kiyal sorta acts like a Neko-jin, or at least I'd say she reminds me of a cat, so it works in my mind.
Yay ViralKiyal! At first I was thinking ViralYoko would be good, because he wont die on her... but then I thought of this and it works better. (Viral and Yoko clash too much anyways.)

I checked. He's a shark-type with feline genetics. I think he's more lion-tigerish than housecat, but more shark than any of that. Wikipedia's Gurren-Lagann articles are fairly accurate so I trust it in that regard.

What is the source of that Wikipedia article? I mean, Wikipedia is compiled by fans not GAINAX and I know that this "Viral is a cat" is mostly a fan misconception.

Hm... I still find their description quite accurate:
"His appearance is more humanoid than most other Beastmen, except for his cat-like eyes, shark-like teeth, and large clawed paws in place of hands."
What other kind of beast-man could he be? He looks like a human-shark-cat, in that order. I'm not saying it's a big part, I'm saying he probably wouldn't have hair if he was just a shark-type beastman. I never said 'Viral is a cat', and I agree the Viral article conspicuously lacks sources (a fact that reduces its credibility, but doesn't completely negate it).
He's got a few cat-ish traits about him, mostly in the way he moves when fighting. Neither humans or sharks have claws. His eyes are also cat-like. Where did GAINAX say he wasn't part cat-type beastman? If you can cite that then I will concede completely.
If GAINAX says nothing then there's no way to prove either side is right or wrong.

I doubt the guy that put it on Wikipedia pulled Cat/Shark out of his ass. There were all kinds of Gurren-Lagann radio shows and what not that I don't even have access to and wouldn't be able to translate anyway that someone else could have.
Wikipedia isn't 100% infaliable, but in the case of fandom, there are just as many devoted fans making sure the information is accurate as there are people putting whatever they want on there. So I'd say it is 90% right, about 80% of the time.

As I told you, the cat thing is very popular among fans because of some Japanese fanart imageries and memes on 4chan. It's not something official.

I don't think fanart can create that big of a misconception. I agree that it might have, but it is also possible that there was something official that said it as well, especially since most of what I've heard of Gurren-Lagann bonus content is supposed to be pure audio, which I neither knopw where to find or how to translate. It is annoying that I can't confirm or deny this because soem idiot didn't cite his sources on Wikipedia.
Still, if you thought he was lizard-ish, where did shark come from?

Hey, you're the one who assumed that "cat-like eyes" meant he had "feline genetics": I never said that my opinion of him looking like a lizard is the ultimate truth.
Don't underestimate the power of Japanese fanarts XD Fandoms are stuck to certain interpretations because of it since forever, also if they have no meaning ("Haruna [Ookiku Furikabutte] is a catboy!", "Kaiji [Ultimate Survivor Kaiji] is a prostitute!", "Archer [Fullmetal Alchemist] is a girly uke!") >_>;
The "shark" influence comes from the teeth, that's a common imagery in anime.
Fujishiro [Seto no Hanayome] and Kisame [Naruto] who have both teeth like that are sharkmen.

At this point it is simply up to individual interperitation until somebody gives some Gainax related evidence.
I guess I'm going to just drop it and say "Viral is a Viral." and leave it at that for now. He may be neither cat nor shark. What if he's a aligater type beastman? Anywho it doesn't matter. He's a dude with slitted eyes, shark-y teeth, funky hands, claws, blonde hair, and funky scars/skin patterns. Where ever he got his unique traits doesn't really matter, his behavior is his own and gives us no clues. If he spent his time curled up in the sun, then no question cat, if he spent it doing some hissing tongue thing then no question lizard, if he liked swimming then no question shark. However he does none of these things, so all we know is that he's Viral and he pilots an Enki(dudu).
I tried to back up some kind of inference by looking into Nikopol and Enki Bilal, but all I really found was a movie based on the series titled Immortal (ironic seeing as Viral became just that) and there were some freaky shark things (didn't see any clear images) and Horus (who was a bird-guy-god thing, but that's irrelevent). Wikipedia articles on the three books were lacking, but I remember 'telepathic cat' being hilighted in the summary for the second book but I figured it wouldn't matter, the reference was pretty obcure and deeply rooted into the story and unlikely to have had any impact on what type of beastman Viral was, however I do know a thing or two about Egypt and I know that Horus was an egyptian god, and they liked cats, and crocodiles lived in the nile. (They also had gods with heads of both so that goes nowhere as well.) *shrug* I got nothing. I can't say I found anything glaringly obvious, the artist could have just decided what looked the coolest and went with it.
I really didn't look into Enkidu and Gilgamesh but I don't care enough anymore. Maybe I'll wind up checking later.
Doesn't matter. You win due to my lack of ability to produce anything remotely resembling evidence. I also would rather not resort to logical falicies to support my argument, thus my search for pseudo proof was explained but personally ignored. I enjoyed the talk though, twas fun.
