Description
The StranglingDo you know these African people that wear alot of necklaces really tight around the neck? They do this so the neck will get longer..or something.. I don't know if its a part of culture or just beauty in their eyes but, this is the idea behind my photo.. Unfortunatly I couldn't find more information about this culture so I just called this piece the Strangling..

Oh and I saw a thing on the dicovery channel where a very old woman took all of her coils of and her neck didn't collapse she was totally fine. all it does is lover the shoulders. and it actually makes their neck stronger.

it lowers their shoulders not elongate the neck it is beautiful and its coils not necklaces. When the women reach a certain age they get their first coil and they just keep adding from there.

Pa Dong, or the Long Neck Tribe resides in Thailand though they are natives of Burma. They do not place rings, but a spiral around their neck and it is changed when the child grows. Contrary to popular belief, they do not stretch their vertebrae (neck bones) as this would be impossible and lead to slow paralysis. The weight of the brass spiral pushes their rib cage down to slope at a 45 degree angle off their spine; thus the look of a long neck is just an illusion. Also, because there is no damage to the nerves or spinal cord, the brass can be removed without any true danger, the muscles will eventually contract back into a normal position.
Pa Dong is a small minority of the Red Karen tribe.
The picture is lovely, I adore the crisp shiny of the spikes against the softer hues of the skin and background.

yah its was based on culture and beauty. If they ever removed just one peices of the neck lace ther neck would collapse and they would die. So yah its pretty but also depressing =_=.

i really like the paleness of the background and the model and then the studs are so heavy & contradicting.
... and i think the bdeng tribe in burma (?) does/did that to their women in the past so they could be easily recignized.
