Description
Cadet Sylvia Tilly from the U.S.S. DiscoveryI have A LOT to learn about painting curly hair. This was a first and it did not the least work out the way I hoped it would. (I stopped counting layers at 15 ... normally layers for dark hair are 3-4 and for blond up to 8). This was also the first portrait that took me a week, instead the usual two days.

Thank you very much! I will! Discovery still has my heart and soul at the moment, so I'll be drawing some more in the months to come.

Thank you! I was painting this for somebody and she wanted to have the hair down.

I can imagine the insane amount of work painting her hair required O_o but I love the result <3

Like everyone says here, I love how you painted her big hair! The surface texture of her skin is very realistic while still being gestural. Nice!

I think you've done a very good and amazing job with this one! The hair looks great also. I think maybe you could have given harder edges of the curls closer to the camera to give them more definition, because some are a bit blurry. But otherwise, I think you've found a great way to give a feeling of profuse curliness!
I'm not convinced by the to-me-rather-uninteresting Starfleet crew at this point (except Saru, a bit more), so I can't say I like Tilly, really, but I'm still going to fav this piece.
If you feel inspired by Klingons however~ (I think the Klingons are much more interesting and have much better interaction at this point, they're much more engaging to me)

Yes, I definitely would have needed some more layers on those curls. It was one of those occasions where my patience ran short first. I was working for a whole week on this one and I wanted it to be finished . But the curls are definitely too blurred.
I'm completely in love with part of the new crew (and the series). Haven't felt like this in ... well ... it has to be decades. And I'm very fortunate that I found a very dedicated group of fans. So at the moment I'm mostly painting for them, cause they gave me a kind of home where I can be happy and talk all aspects about what I love. (which isn't possible in open groups cause there instantly oh-this-is-shit-this-is-not-canon-this-is-not-my-Trek comments comes their way. And I'm sooo tired of those)

tbh I admire you for spending one week on a painting -- I'm such a very impatient person that it's difficult for me to spend more than a few hours on something.
I'm glad you enjoy the series this much though! I think the universe and characters are pretty good, but my issue mostly is with the storytelling itself and the "action" and "cool stuff that is also kinda confusing" -- I feel like the new crew could have a much better, more engaging treatment. Hopefully it'll get better.
Can I ask on which platform your group is also? (and yeah, I feel the same about smaller groups -- that's why I stick to mine as well xD)

LOL! I promised it to someone, so I had to pull it through. Normally I give up on paintings, when I don't get them done in two days. My Painter folder is full of half coloured, half painted, half drawn stuff . I guess for every piece I post, there are three that go down the path of oblivion ...
The group is on facebook (Star Trek Discovery: the inofficial fanpage). I found it cause Anthony Rapp posted a link on twitter. It has over 12.000 members and they are very diverse so you can always find a topic and people to talk to. And the admins are quite effective in throwing haters out .

Haw, I can understand tho! I don't show everything either
I'm not very good at facebook groups tho, especially big ones; it always made me feel kind of awkward for some reason. I feel more comfortable on chat platforms, and Discord is just perfect for that with how it's easy to share pics, links, vids etc just as good as any other. I created a small server to filter a bit who gets to come so to make a safe space and it proved very efficient, and I'm also part of a small rp server that's growing rather fast and about this Star Trek rp www.revolutionfleet.com/ (set 5 years after the Dominion War, on a Starbase for reminiscence of DS9 and easing playing civilians, although there are some ships too).

In the fanpage we already named her "Star Trek's Merida". Love her hair (but not, when I have to paint it
)

She is wonderful, isn't she? I totally love her!
Normally I wouldn't have painted her with the hair down, but a dear member of the DSC fanpage wanted to see all of her hair ...
