I've recently developed an interest in the creatures of Japanese folklore, known collectively as yokai. This one is known as Futakuchi Onna, literally "Woman with Two Mouths." The second mouth has an insatiable appetite and a tendency to shout unwelcome truths. The long hair is prehensile, and the second mouth uses it to feed itself.

According to Hiroko Yoda and Matt Alt, in their book Yokai Attack, "...they are cursed beings, once human. They are the result of extreme cases of mothers favouring their own offspring over their stepchildren; more specifically, in situations when the stepchildren are neglected to the point of starvation. ...forty-nine days later the soul of the departed child comes to inhabit the body of his or her tormentor, transforming her into an insatiably hungry Futakuchi Onna."
