The Fire Still Burns

"Holy-!!" Hayate dived out of the way, a neko posterior crashing down where he had been standing just moments before.

"Go AWAY!" Leena shouted, cutting down another neko with her claws before she spun, decking another enemy with a swift kick to the face. Kri stood in the house, several paces behind Leena, battling an axe wielding feline warrior with her naginata. Her enemy, decked from head to toe in steel armor, waded through her blows with impunity, an axe strike cleaving through a wall, inches below Kri's diving head. She rolled on the floor, her naginata out defensively in front of her.

"What do you want with me?" Kri muttered, watching her slow enemy closely. At the entrance to the house, Leena leaped over a blow towards her leg, catching her assailant full in the face with a dropping knee.

"How do I get-" Hayate started to mutter, when he saw Kri get thrown against a wall from a particularly harsh blow. Cursing under his breath, he ran between Leena's legs, racing towards the heavily armored fighter.

"Here too?" Hiro muttered, crouched behind a wall. Gunfire erupted, bullets crashing one after another into the obstruction as he turned to Kou and Hiro. "You guys got any ideas?"

Lassic shook his head, looking past the human soldiers at Twixy, alone and unarmed against another neko carrying a great sword. "We need to get over there and help her, but how?" A bullet crashed into the wall immediately below his head, prompting Lassic to duck back under the wall or risk getting his head blown off.

"I think I might 'ave an idea, ya'll," Kou muttered, glancing at the soldiers during a break in the gunfire as they reloaded. While Kou talked, Hiro stood, firing off several rounds before diving back behind cover as their fire started anew. "What if one o' us acts as a decoy o' some sort and draws their fiah? The others ken use that openin' to help Twixy."

Twixy ducked under a swing with a yowl, bouncing away with spritely speed. "Ah! Can't we talk about this? I don't want to fight!" Twixy yelped, tripping over a tiny lightpost, rolling head over heels. Her opponent's blade slammed into the ground, clipping some hairs from her tail.

"No! All rebel factions must be destroyed! In the name of the Queen of Nekosia!" With a cry, the unnamed soldier stabbed, catching the sleeve of Twixy's short top, pinning her to the wall.

"In the name of who?" Twixy yelped, tearing herself free from the stab, tackling the soldier to the ground. Straddling him, she set to work with her claws, ripping and slashing at whatever she could reach. The soldier was surprised at first, but he managed to grab her hands after several seconds, setting his foot against her stomach and thrusting. Twixy thudded against the wall, diving to the side. She shook her head, looking up at where she had been, the warrior's gauntleted fist pounding a hole in the wall. He toppled suddenly, grabbing at his ankle, where a certain man with a claymore stood, the claymore stabbed all the way to its hilt in the neko's foot.

"Why don't you fight someone that knows what he's doing, sir?" Lassic muttered grimly, pulling his shining blade from the foot.

"Why you little- AAAH!!" The neko shouted, grabbing at his face as a plethora of explosions erupted, burning flesh and scattering blood. Hiro reloaded his gun, firing another barrage of bullets, singeing the flesh of the stunned neko even more. Lassic ran up the neko's arm as he tried to shield himself rom the blistering gunfire, throwing a kick at Hiro, who was safely out of range. The warrior felt something on his throat, reaching a hand for Lassic, but Twixy caught him in the shoulder with a roundhouse, smashing his arm against the wall. "GET OFF ME YOU LITT-" were the last words the overwhelmed fighter managed to say before Lassic's holy blade, Fragarach, pierced his jugular. Blood sprayed out in a crimson geyser, the neko's eyes closed slowly, peacefully, to know nothing more ever again.

"Watch it!" Leena shouted, tackling Kri out of the way of yet another axe swipe. Most of the other assailants had been taken out already by Leena, but there was little either she or Kri could do against the knight's heavy armor.

"Can't you use your magic to get it off him?" Kri shouted, blocking another slash.

"It takes time to cast!" Leena countered defensively, throwing a kick at his head. Kri opened her mouth to retort but stopped, seeing something small climbing up the steel armor. She blocked the ax, pinning it to the ground under her foot. Leena glanced at Kri curiously, having seen the small thing as well. The knight shook his axe furiously, sending Kri careening to the floor as he raised it high over his head.

It never swung down.

The knight coughed, trying to lift his visor, suffocating on what sounded like his own blood. With a final cough, a clot of blood dribbled from his mouth just as he managed to raise his visor, falling back.

Hayate crawled out from under his helmet, covered in blood. He shook his head in disgust, trying to clean his bloodstained hair. "Sorry it took me so long to get over here. I got lost."
