Description King of the Monsters: Final Frontier

Episode 7-33

----------

Down in the Hollow Earth, the team has discovered a vast ecosystem.  They've only been here for less than a day, and already they've discovered all kinds of Megafauna.  Some are familiar, like the Skullcrawlers and Deathrunners.  Others are strange and never seen before, like the thick-headed Stygimorah species, a giant species of pachycephalosaurid.  Madison is unable to contain her excitement, sketching whatever she could see, with Pero 2 documenting their behaviors.  Mikaela and Nicole are following her around to make sure she doesn't get into trouble.

Nicole: Wow, she's really excited.  Like a kid on Christmas.
Mikaela: This is a good chance to sharpen my drawing skills too; I haven't drawn since the second wave.
Nicole: Something puzzles me.  Ancient societies were said to have worshipped these creatures.  But there's no sign of civilization down here that we've seen so far.
Mikaela: Who knows?  Either they only saw what came out, or there used to be an entire race that went extinct.

The trio's search takes them to Kiko, who is slowly adjusting to his new home.  Nearby is Teresa.  She signs to him "Home", to which he replies in sign as well, "Home".  A loud braying then catches their attention.  They see two young male Stygimorahs jousting for fun.  Their thick skulls are solid bone, and their spines are built to withstand the impact.  They head-butt one another like bighorn sheep, horns interlocking.  One of the young males eventually concedes.  Madison has just finished her sketch.

Madison: What do you think?
Mikaela: A bit dark, but it looks good.
Madison: These must be juveniles; their horns aren't fully developed.  So they're practicing it seems.
Teresa: They're just playing now.  But one day, they will fight for dominance in the herd... if they live long enough.  Predators are never far away.

They see a third, larger Stygimorah, likely the youngsters' mother, arriving, and the two follow her to a feeding area.  The four humans and Kiko keep their distance; while Kiko is a capable fighter, the force of the dinosaur's skull could easily break his back.  One of the young males separates from the group to feed on tasty fruit.  A shadow then looms over them.  Suddenly a huge serpent descends upon the herd, tackling the young dinosaur, and preparing to smother it with its wings.  Immediately, the mother jumps in to ram the serpent, forcing it to release its prey.

Teresa: What is that?!
Nicole: It looks like a flying serpent.
Madison: An aerial predator.  Pero 2, classify it.
Pero 2: Done.  Codename Warbat.  Vellum vespertilio.  This was the first animal Dr. Sinclair discovered before he went missing while trying to find Monster G.

Another Warbat suddenly appears and starts chasing the humans.  Kiko grabs onto its tail and holds on, destabilizing the flyer.  He grabs a nearby ledge and holds on, making the Warbat stop and drop.  It recovers with a shrilling sound, then charges at the small ape.  But Kiko, being smaller, can evade the toothy jaws.  It tries to wrap him and smother him, but Kiko grabs a tree and stabs it in the eye, forcing it to let go.  He then tackles the serpent, delivering an electric punch to the face, and the force makes it fall head-first onto a sharp rock, impaling it and killing it quickly.  Meanwhile, the female Stygimorah allows the other Warbat to strike its head.  Having absorbed enough kinetic energy, the dinosaur jumps into the serpent, ramming and knocking it down with an amazingly powerful blow.  The serpent recovers but abandons its hunt.  Today, it will go hungry.  Having driven off the predator, the female Stygimorah turns her attention to her offspring, who are safe for the time being.

Later, the team regroups at the camp, and they report their finds one at a time to Phillip, who is documenting their progress and hoping for good news.

Phillip: Give me good news.  What did you all see?
Madison: Teresa, my parents, and I discovered two new species.  A Warbat and Stygimorah.
Mikaela: I found some Rock Critters and a big fat lizard eating them.
Nicole: And I ran into bat monsters.  I call them Hellhawks.
Phillip: And any signs of the energy source?
Teresa: Not yet, but we'll update you as soon as we find any clues.
Phillip: I see.  Double your search tomorrow.  The Sixth Extinction could be looking for it for all we know.

Far away, the surviving Warbat is searching for easier prey.  It was a stone-cold aerial hunter, death from above.  However, it's not the only one.  As it prepares to close in on a herd of Ultrasaurs, an even bigger shadow looms over it.  The flying snake reacts too late as a huge dragon-like Megafauna descends upon it and snatches it like a great bird of prey.  The beast is dark green with black stripes and lighter wings.  It had horns on its head, as well as whiskers and finned ears, and piercing yellow eyes.  Having captured its prey, the dragon pins the Warbat down, its spikes charging up in a purple color.  It then jolts down, firing a purple beam down the Warbat's mouth, cooking it alive from the inside.  The beast takes its prize to feed somewhere safe to evade any competitors, as making a kill doesn't always guarantee a meal.

----------

Not far away, a swarm of Hellhawks, unholy abominations of birds and bats, are on the hunt.  They don't usually travel far from their roosts, but something had happened to make them angry.  Their target is a girl in a torn outfit like a jungle loincloth covered in scars.  The wild girl swang from tree to tree with unbelievable grace and agility, keeping one step ahead of her pursuers.  She jumps off a tree and slides down the back of a feeding Ultrasaur down to its tail, continuing to flee on another tree, swinging through the vines.  Eventually, the girl made it to a barren mountain cave.  The Hellhawks picked up a scent and fled, but one was too preoccupied with catching her that it failed to notice an incoming plasma beam, which obliterates the flyer.  The girl looks and sees the dragon with the Warbat carcass, and runs up on all fours to greet him, actually nuzzling his snout like a baby animal would nuzzle its parent.  Dropping the carcass, he looks at the charred Hellhawk, then down at the girl, in an almost condescending glare.  The girl signs with her hands to the dragon to explain.

Girl: *through sign language* Hungry.  Wanted egg.  Could not wait.  Forgive me.

The dragon Megafauna's glare died down into an understanding one, and he nuzzled her with a purring sound, almost understanding her.  He tore a chunk of meat from the carcass and ate it, allowing the girl to dig in for her own share of the kill.  He knew she preferred her meat cooked instead of raw.  As they ate, the girl looked at the team's campsite from the cave.  She was curious but also wary.  Her whole life, she was unaware there were creatures like her.  She wanted to learn more about these strangers but knew it was dangerous.  Soon, she would make a decision that would change life as she knew it forever...
