Description
Version 2 Here: dakirby309.deviantart.com/art/β¦
Here is my idea for how Windows 10 should look and function like! The File Explorer needs A LOT of tweaking in my opinion. The Explorer could be so much more if MS would let it.
I especially think they need to work on TABS and they should have a greatly enhanced Navigation Pane, the one that's currently implemented is years old and has hardly changed. It has a lot of room for improvement. When comparing Windows' Nav. Pane to Mac OS X, Apple's is quite superior in functionality and customization. The current one in Windows is so limiting and basic.
Some features such as RAM/CPU usage, tab previews, and updates bubbles would OF COURSE be an optional feature.
Feel free to tell me what you think.
All elements in this concept are designed by me (but many icons are based off of pre-existing icons owned by MS and other companies)
Due to comments, I renamed this to "V1" (Version 1). Which implies there will likely be a "V2" which may house a few minor changes such as icon style and a few other little things.

I love the right bottom corner and notifications but left side on folder needs some color I think. Quick Access icons and idea is very nice but I do not know what's missing there. Maybe just some color. Except these, very successful concept.

Thanks for your feedback. Glad you like it overall, I am thinking about making a "v2" which will feature color and perhaps a few minor changes.

Tabs on file explorer would be a life saver right now as a Windows 8.1 user. Are they actually going to have a tabbed File Explorer on Win10 or was this all your idea?

As of right now in the current Win10 builds, tabs are not implemented in any way. The tab concept was my idea, but many other concepts from others also include tabs. But mine is the first one I've seen that was styled directly after Project Spartan browser... which if they do add tabs, they'll likely make them look kind of like my concept's tabs.
I really hope they add tabs... they NEED tabs already

The idea is awesome either way. I could really use a tabbed File Explorer. It'd make thing a hell of a lot easier than having multiple windows open.

There are a few 3rd party explorer extensions that have been out for years that might be worth trying if you haven't already: Qttabar, Clover (it's buggy but much like Chrome), and WindowTabs

I appreciate the suggestions but I'm not much for modifying my UI. I've had things go awry in the past with that kind of tinkering.

All good, totally understandable. I don't do much modifying myself to save CPU/RAM and in case of errors

Nice concept! I feel like tab previews wouldn't be good because they might get in the way of working. Also, those sidebar icons just don't fit with the concept in my opinion.

Personally, I wouldn't find myself using tab previews either. I thought I'd implement it because MicrosoftΒ is doing that on their new Spartan browser for matching features and consistency, plus I'm certain at least some people would find previews useful. Tab previews would of course be an optional feature as I imagine it will be on the Spartan browser too.
Other Windows 10 Explorer concepts have implemented a simple-looking monochromatic navigation pane with outlined icons as well. Apple has also done this on OS X Yosemite. Minimal, basically outline-styled icons in what they call the sidebar (MS equivalent of Nav. Pane.) I personally like the way it looks (not a huge amount, but I'm happy with it).
But I'm glad you like the concept overall, thanks for the suggestion.

Aside from the tab previews and monochrome look in the nav pane, I really like this... The tab previews just feel kinda pointless though, you click on something to check the tab anyway so it may actually slow people down.

Glad you like the concept. But yeah, personally, I wouldn't find myself using tab previews either. I thought I'd implement it because MicrosoftΒ is doing that on their new Spartan browser for matching features and consistency, plus it would help some people I'm sure.
