I got to my favorite solitary bee shooting spot just as the sun was coming out from behind the clouds. So when I saw this Miner Bee I stood over it to keep it in my shadow. It didn't take long before the critter warmed up and took off anyway, but I still managed a few frames.Tech specs: Canon 40D (F13, 1/250, ISO 100) + a Canon MPE-65mm macro lens (@3x) + a diffused MT-24EX (-1 FEC).

I must start off by saying i think this is and outstanding picture. Its not the most original picture going but but i think the impact of it more then makes up for the lack of originality.
I really dont think i could find anything wrong with this picture at all but i will now go into more detail about the good bits...
The sharpness is just outstanding, its so sharp i can see all the detail of the bee's eye and all the detail of every hair on the bee.
I also think you could not have asked for better lighting to take this picture.
The background also works so very well, the colour of the flower really brings out all the colour of the bee.
And it goes without saying that the depth of field (DOF) is also perfect, the head and the front leg is in focus and the back area of the bee is out of focus well done
All in all it is an outstanding picture, i would give it 10/10

Phenominal depth of field. The color is brilliant. The pink is soft and the yellow of the bee stands out nicely. It makes the overall feel of it very gentle.
All of that being said, I don't care how good your macro lens is, I would never get close enough to shoot a bee. I'm just not that brave. So extra points for that.
