Description This is something I've been wanting to try for a while - a straight recreation (as opposed to the mash-up cover recreations I've done in the past) of the cover of one of the comics that helped change me into a comic fan as a kid.

In this case, Alpha Flight #3 - This series had some great artwork when Byrne was drawing it.

The original cover was created by John Byrne, copyright Marvel Comics.

An amazing cover, and you just nailed it perfectly.

God, I remember seeing this issue on the wall of my childhood comic store.

Memories.

For me, that series was a huge letdown. Rather then run it as a true Superhero book, Byrne was doing his best to make it an "outside the box" kind of team... killing Guardian off so soon into the run really killed the books momentum. If anything I've always thought he secretly wanted to just do a mini-series with it and be done with it, sort of like how Gruenwald did Squadron Supreme.

Btw... the cover is awesome!

Huh, that's what I kind of dug about it (the outside the box thing, plus I was a Byrne Faithful throughout the 80s).

I *was* disappointed in the death of Guardian, though... such great potential gone!

It wasn't so bad... 90% of it was just tracing all of those bars with a ruler!

I own this one!  I OWN THIS ONE!!!!!!  Oh Alpha Flight.  I was too young to catch it the first time around, but I grew interested in it, being a Canadian X-Men fan in my late teens.  I started to acquire some of them.  They were shockingly cheap at the time, I seem to remember.

A great recreation!

Thanks!  I started buying them around ish #10 (the May 1984 cover date, when I "officially" became a "collector").  Picking up the first few at that time was a bear, because AF was a 'hot' comic.  Years later they could all be had for a quarter.

I still love those first couple dozen issues, even though Byrne himself wasn't that enthusiastic about the project.

Always seemed to me like an 80's curio, and X-Calibur seemed WAY cooler with the characters.  I dunno: Canada makes everything to do with comics suck.  Except for Wolverine.  Who really isn't very Canadian in any way.

I find Canadian Whites (Canadian comics made during WWII when the importing of American comics was banned for some dumb war effort logic) to be interesting historical artifacts, but ... they really suck.  I mean, all comics from the 40's weren't necessarily high art, but the Canadian ones were obviously hard-working second-string Canadian talents trying to emulate their American betters.  And believe me, I know what it's like being a second-string Canadian talent trying to emulate my American betters.  I know whereof I speak.
