Description
This is something I've been wanting to try for a while - a straight recreation (as opposed to the mash-up cover recreations I've done in the past) of the cover of one of the comics that helped change me into a comic fan as a kid.In this case, Batman #321 - One of Jose Luis Garcia-Lopez' most chilling covers... I mean, check out the Joker, he's super frightening!
The original cover was created by Jose Luis Garcia-Lopez, copyright DC Comics.
Here is the original cover: ic.pics.livejournal.com/icon_u…

Great work! I had not seen this Cover but as a big admirer of Garcia-Lopez, your Recreation is a delight.

Thank you! He's highly underrated. But his work was EVERYWHERE at DC for a good 20 years, not to mention all of the licensing work he did.

I have the book about him and he seems very modest. It was discouraging to see how good he was from the start of his career in South America, he drew Pirate stories with excellent art then did Romance and other stuff for Charlton Comics all of it brilliant. I loved reading how when he visited DC, Joe Orlando seems to have treated him like the amazing talent that he was and invited other Editors to come and give him work.
There was also a story of Moebius visiting DC and being really impressed by the Garcia -Lopez art on the wall in Joe Orlando's office.

Nothing like Old School Joker to liven up the day.

The Neal Adams/Garcia-Lopez/Aparo Joker was so creepy!

Your patience must be considerable. It's one of the many things I admire about you.

It doesn't hurt that these are easy and fun! Now if I was gonna try a Neal Adams or Art Adams or Brian Bolland piece... then I would need patience!

Perfect! You're getting too good at this! I'll never trust "original's for sale" again!
On the other hand, some day, when I have the money for it, I'll ask for a cover recreation from you

haha! They do look good all together on my wall, even if they aren't the originals. Plus, they're fun to do.
What cover would you have in mind, just out of curiosity?

That question made me loose an afternoon! Not easy to answer, but based on nostalgia, I would go for the beginning of my comic addition:

Ahh, nice choice!
And yes, I've spent many hours going through coverbrowser or mycomicshop.com to find the next cover I want to do...

That issue's one of the darker 'crazy Joker' stories that DC did *before* Frank Miller came along.

That sure does feel really crazy, and get under your skin creepy. This is a more over the top crazy Joker, the Frank Miller Joker is more of that uncomfortable broad strokes Joker.
