I know that this will be a remarkably stupid question, but what sort of paper do you use? I always struggle with inking because of the inevitable bleed...

I use 100lb smooth bristol board pretty much exclusively. Nice & thick, and the smooth finish pretty much eliminates bleed (I use a brush).
What paper are you using that is giving you bleed problems?

ermm *embarrassment* I've tried thus far a variety of standard drawing cartridges, watercolour paper and so on. I'm in Australia and my hunt for Bristol board has thus far been absolutely fruitless - i think i'll just have to bite the proverbial bullet and order some in from the US

ahhh.. I could see where pens could bleed on watercolor paper quite a bit because of the absorbency & finish of the paper.
Bristol board is probably the best, but you if you can get your hands on smooth, heavy card stock that should work pretty well too.

I had fun with this one. The Thing wasn't even part of the request, just a 'conquered monster of some sort'... I'd have a blast drawing a Thing story, all those plates don't scare me!
