Continuing my cover recreation studies of great artists & covers...In this case, Tales from the Crypt #32 -
The original cover was created by Jack Davis, copyright EC Publications.
The mini EC series I've been working on are super big, this is 18x24 bristol.

I can't imagine how many hours you have spent, recreating Jack davis's lines. This has to be exhausting.

You'd be surprised, it's a lot more effortless/less time than trying to replicate say, a Wood or Ingels - whos lines are much more intentional. Davis' lines are more patterns, that once decoded can happen very quickly. It takes a little giving one's self permission to let go a bit.

There's multiple things amazingly inked here. The multitude of textures you reproduced here are wonderful. Plus, love that woman!

Thanks, Zoe! The juxtaposition of the elephant's rough lines and the lady's (and the trainer's) smooth lines were one of my favorite things about this cover.
As mentioned in another comment, doing a Jack Davis texture is one part decoding the patterns he used, then just kind of letting go and letting them happen. It helps that my own hatching style is influenced by his (and Crumb's).
