In this woman's introductory scene, our protagonist, Varg, decides to give the concept of 'reading' a chance, and barges loudly into the first bookstore she encounters. (The place is called Souvarine's Used Books).

Nothing much catches her eye, until she spots this dirt cheap heroic-fantasy paperback novel that features a tied up and gagged redhead on the cover illustration -- a beautiful redhead, clad in a terribly short tunic, who's gripping a wooden sword in her bound wrists, bravely facing two attackers in what seems to be a colisseum.

This speaks deeply to Varg, who immediately elects to spend all of the three bucks and fifty cents required for its purchase.

This bored employee -- who's been dealing with her eccentricities rather well -- has this comment to make upon seeing the cover, which is not an entirely unreasonable conclusion to come to. She also doesn't fail to thank Varg for enlivening her day with her ridiculous antics.
